Are there any websites that will tell about particular units of the war, such as where a unit might have organized or the person who led the unit might have signed his men up. I am not very familiar with this. I am searching for information of an ancestor who was of the correct age to have served in this war, but I have no idea if he did or not. He lived in Giles Co., TN. in 1850. I believe he was there by 1836 as I have found him on a tax list for that year. In 1840, however, I don't find his name on the census records for Giles Co., but he was on the 1850 Giles Census. I haven't located him in 1860, but I think he probably had died by this time. He was born circa 1787 in Kentucky according to census records. I have no idea where in Kentucky. Since he was in Tennessee (Giles) by 1836, I have checked Byron and Samuel Sistler's book, Tennesseans in the War of 1812. I have found 11 listings for my name--William Scott---13 listings if I count Wilie Scott's. I suppose his wife could have drawn a pension and I haven't checked for that yet, since I don't have any particulars about his war record or even if he had one. Can anyone help me on this? I really just need something---a book or website that could tell where these particular units the 13 Wilie/William Scott's served in were raised. This would help me possibly determine if my William Scott did indeed serve in this War. Judy K. Sanders
