    3. I found a county family history that had my ancestor, John Henry of Crawford Pennsylvania, listed as having been in the War of 1812 on the Great Lakes and serving under Admiral Perry. How do I find out if this is true? I have searched everywhere and found nothing. Thanks, Dawn

    3. The book 'Deep Water Sailors, Shallow Water Soldiers. Manning the United States Fleet on Lake Erie - 1813', by Gerard T. Altoff, 1993, has a listing of the men who were on board the ships under the command of Perry on Lake Erie. It includes those in the US Army, US Marines, Pennsylvania Militia and Rhode Island Volunteers that volunteered to serve on board ship. It was compiled from published rosters and manuscripts. I do not see a John Henry listed; there is a William Henry of the 147th Pennsylvania who was on board the 'Niagara'.
