    3. I think I found a great-grandfather on theroster of a Kentucky regiment: Pvt. John Sampson (or Samson, or Sansom), Capt. William Young's Company, First Regiment, Kentucky Light Dragoons John was from western VA (Tazewell County), later settling in east KY (Pike County). This unit was enlisted on August 27, 1812; till October 31, 1812. So, essentially two-months. I'm presuming they did not see much action, if any at all! In fact, I see many units had similar organizations--on the ready for a call-up to real action, if needed. Still, honrable service, right? :) What can you tell me about this Regimnt?
