With so many hits on my email seeking help on the War of 1812, permit me to add my request, as NARA results have been feeble at best. My gg grnd fthr, Charles Lucius Barrett served in the War of 1812 under the alias John Lee. Lucius was born in France near Belgium,in 1789. Lucius came to his new country with his parents and younger brother. His father Joseph barrette, my progenitor, was in the French army. Lucius may also have been in the French army. He may enlisted as a French army deserter, or as a "hired gun" serving in the draft for someone else, or some otherv reason. The claim for pension by his widow Abalina Jackson Gregory, (married in 1819) and by his daughter Sarah Barrett Synder were both refused according to NARA. Abalina's claim state that Lucius served in the Ordinance Department under Major Davey and a Capt. David. V. Welch. Sarah's claim states "think it was the 4th US Infantry. ANCESTRY.COM lists several records of John Lees but none seem to match. Any research suggestions will be warmly invited. Don Barrett
