    3. Judy, are you looking in New York records for the bounty land of James F. GARDNER? Many of the bounty lands were granted by a federal Act in land set aside for that purpose in the state of Illinois--in counties along the west central edge. You can check for individuals in various states in the Bureau of Land Management site at: http://www.glorecords.gov I happen to know of one individual from Madison County, New York, who was in Illinois circa 1840. If you haven't checked census records for your GARDNER, you could try Illinois. I know of two others from other places in New York who were in Illinois by 1820. If you find someone in the Illinois BLM records and the code is MT, that stands for Military Tract and that person was the first owner. Some land speculators bought up bounty land grants from people, and the people who received the grants never occupied their bounty land grant. Danver's 29th Regiment Can someone tell where to find information on Capt. Danver's 29th Regiment, New York Militia. I found a link at one point, but cannot find it again! I would like to read the history of the Regiment. I'm also searching in Madison County, New York, where my husband's ancestor, James F. GARDNER, was drafted in 1814. According to his pension file, he was also discharged at Madison County. He received a land patent for 320 acres, which someone said was twice the normal amount of land given to soldiers - does anyone know why he would receive this amount? 3. Adele. I have found the land patent in the Territory of Illinois and also have the Pension file. I really want to read the history of this 29th Regiment. James F. Gardner sold some of the land on the day he claimed it to a J. L. (John Lewis) Bogardus, then the rest about 5 months before he died in 1818.
