Hi, Pvt. John Henry served in Captain John Collumn's Company, Major David Nelson's 5th or Odd Battalion in the Brigade of Pennsylvania Troops commanded by Brig. Gen. Richard Crooks in the 2nd Army of the Northwest under the command of Major Gen. William H. Harrison. He was drafted or volunteered for a 6th month tour of duty from 2 October 1812 to 2 April 1813. They rendezvoused at Pittsburgh then marched across Ohio and ended up at the Maumee Rapids where they built Fort Meigs. Due to one wing of the army being wiped out by the British and Indians they remained at the Fort until discharged instead of proceeding on to Detriot and Canada. Capt. Collumn's Company was from Crawford County, but I don't find John Henry in any other rosters. There is a Sgt. James Henry and Pvt. Alexander Henry in the 133rd Regiment 1st Battlion 16th Division Pa Militia, from Crawford County, who served at Erie several times. You should send for his bounty land and possibly his pension records, they should give further information on his service. The militia did volunteer on several occassions to serve with Perry's fleet and a few served on board during the battle. We may be distantly related, but I have not made my Henry connection. Mark S. All I know is that John Henry was in the War of 1812 under Com. Perry on the Great Lakes according to a family profile written in a Centennial Book for Clay Co., Minnesota. He was born around 1775-78 in Pennsylvania. He went from Crawford Co., Penn. > Kane Co., Illinois > Jackson Co., Iowa > and maybe Clay Co., Minnesota (at least his son, Abraham, went to Minnesota). Where do I start looking when this is all I have? Looking for a John Henry is about as bad as a John Smith or Jones!
