    1. Re: [WARof1812] greatness of our Nation!
    2. Hello, again, Jason. It is with good thoughts that I see the project continuing and with regret that my cancer problem precludes my participation for the moment but look forward, in a positive way, to the success of your project. What better way to HONOR the good, and sometimes bad, names of our everyday heroes. What a great group of women and men who continue to sacrifice their time for our benefit. God bless, them. I hope you will consider spreading the word. ------------------------------ *From:* Myers, Josh [mailto:Josh.Myers@mail.house.gov] *Sent:* Monday, July 03, 2006 12:36 PM ***Subject:* Request for support Hello all, I have some very exciting news to share. Congressman Dingell has successfully arranged for a committee hearing on one of the bills for the River Raisin Battlefield. This is a critical step in pushing this legislation through congress. Mr. Dingell has asked that I coordinate and collect written statements of support from all interested parties to enter into the official record during the hearing. Unfortunately, we have very little time to prepare. We received notification Friday evening that the hearing is scheduled for July 13th at 2pm in Washington. The committee hearing will only consider H.R. 5132, and will not take up H.R. 5133 at this time. As you may recall, H.R. 5132 directs the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a special resource study to determine the suitability and feasibility of including the Battlefield into the National Park System. The other bill - H.R. 5133 - authorizes the Park Service to accept donated property relating to the Battle. You can view the bill text of each by going to http://thomas.loc.gov/ and searching the bill numbers H.R. 5132 and H.R. 5133. We would like to gather as many statements from as diverse a group as possible. This Battlefield has tremendous community support, and it is most helpful to relay that to the committee through these statements. The statement should convey the sense of dedication our community shares toward seeing this property restored and interpreted; the importance of this battlefield both historically and economically to our community; and most critically, why from your group's specific perspective this battlefield is important and how inclusion into the National Park System would benefit our community. The letter should be addressed as follows: Chairman Richard Pombo 1324 Longworth House Office Bldg. Washington, DC 20515 If you can please get the letters to me on or before July 11th, I will be happy to ensure their safe travel to Washington. Feel free to distribute this request to any entities that may also be interested in lending their support. Please call or email me if you have any questions. If you are unable to reach me, you can also contact our Legislative Director Josh Tzuker with any questions at Joshua.Tzuker@mail.house.gov<http://us.f338.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=Joshu a.Tzuker@mail.house.gov>or at 202-225-4071. Thank you so much for your continued support in this endeavor, and again I apologize for such short notice, especially on a holiday. All the best, Josh __________________________________________ Joshua Myers Field Representative Office of Congressman John D.
