Ladies and Gentlemen. Over two years ago, I brought to the attention of the members, a serious problem here in Toronto. The Dean at St. James' Cathedral applied for a letter of closure to sell the adjacent cemetery (PRIME Real estate) to erect a condo which would have towered over the Cathedral's Spire, the second highest in North America. The 3000 plus skeleton remains would have been disposed of later, no indication of where and how. Some of these would have contained British, Canadian and American veterans of the Capture of York (Toronto), April 27, 1813. Our opposition forced him to withdraw this application. Now, the US Casualties on that date was 52 soldiers and 3 seamen killed and a total of 222 wounded, some of whom died later in York. I have acquired some 17 names and names only of 3 whose bodies were returned to Sacketts Harbour - Zebulon Pike and Midshipmen Hatfield and Thompson. Can any one supply additional names and possible burial sites. Sacketts Harbour only shows Pike buried there. A lady gave me her relative's name as follows Benona/Benoni Paule/ Pauley 6th Regiment of Infantry. I have searched for confirmation of this name or even a nominal roll of the Regiment. Alas no success. It would be most appreciative if someone would assist me, to fill in the list as much as possible for the records here in Toronto. British and 'Canadian' -I have documented Trevor Hamilton Toronto
