    3. This is a story that ran in today's Detroit newpaper: http://tinyurl.com/f5enh. It is about the city of Monroe, MI making the River Raisin battlefield into (hopefully) a National Military Park. One of the interesting things is that there was a paper mill constructed there almost 100 years ago that paved over part of the battlefield, and they expect that artifacts and soldiers' burials will be found underneath when they demolish it. They also mention that Canada and Kentucky are currently the only places where there's a lot of interest in the battle. I'm a bit apprehensive, however, over how they're trying to be P.C about presenting the Indians' role in the events, not to mention the British. So we'll have to wait and see how it all works out. I assume they're hoping to get all this done in time for the bicentennial years of the conflict. I had a 3rd-g-grandfather from KY who spent time in northern Ohio after the time of this event, and another relative from the same area who was at the Thames. It's interesting that in an old family history writeup, this person (of course) claimed to know exactly who killed Tecumseh and who made off with his scalp. If you put all of those old "local lore" stories together, it could probably make a good-sized book :-). Doug G
