My Great Grandfather passed down a letter stating that one of our ancestors, Capt. Robert Alexander, died at the Battle of the River Raisin. Does anyone know where I can find a list of the soldiers that died in the battle? I am not even sure if he was fighting for the US or if he was fighting with the British. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me where to look for this information. Thank you, Joan
I do not see a Robert Alexander listed in 'Remember the Raisin!' by G. Glenn Clift, 1961. It lists those who were know to have been there as well as those captured or killed. Robert Alexander is not listed in 'Known Military Dead During War of 1812' by Clarence S. Peterson, 1955. There is a Lieutenant Robert Alexander in 'Kentucky Soldiers of the War of 1812' Adjutant General of Kentucky, 1891. He was in Captain Frederick W. S. Grayson's Company, Third Regiment Kentucky Detached Militia.
