Barry, I just perused through about 14 different affidavits or accounts on the death of Tecumseh, that were by the British, by the Americans and by the Indians themselves, and some accounts address where he was buried . Several accounts by the Indians state that Tecumseh was not mutilated, as late as a day or two after the battle, nor evere, but that an Indian near him was. That Indian near Tecumsehs body was scalped, and mutilated by having strips of skin removed from him. The opinion seems to be that some of the American forces had believed this Indian to be Tecumseh due to how well decked out he was. Tecumseh usually fought in rather plain Garb and was dressed the same on this day. It is stated more than once that Tecumseh was buried near the field of battle and one account states that the burial was within sight of the American campfires.
