Many soldiers of rank in the Militia did not retain their same level of command in the war of 1812 that they held prior to the war. I would check out Lewis County for further information on the 101 Regiment New York Militia. The majority of its Captains were from Lewis County. the records I find for the command of this Regiment shows a Lt. Colonel Zeboim Cartwright, yet Ihe individuals soldiers records indicate a ? Cartter was in command. There is a Zeoboam Carter in Lewis County during the war of 1812. What does all this have to do with Colonel Nathan Cook. ?? He could very well be the Major Nathan Cook listed in this Regiment who also resided in Lewis County in the time frame you list.
