Hello List, I am glad I woke everyone up! Before I asked the list, I had tried all the goggle searches I could come up with, all the other search lists for the War of 1812, and no luck with a list of the men in the regiment or a history of it. Lots of others but not this one. I wasn't thinking about pension files but apparently, neither of my guys applied for one. Joseph Bancroft is listed as a Lt. but when he moved to Michigan he is a Captain. Promoted, I guess. I have learned a lot about the War of 1812, tho. As far as I know, they both were living in Erie County, or that vicinity so were probably in the "Battle of Sodus". That area must have been a wild place to live at that time! And, Adele, my people came from that same area in Massachusetts. Joseph's sister, Lucinda married an Oaks (we don't know his name) and for her second? marriage married William Ross and she is my ancestor. William and Lucinda both moved to Oakland County, Michigan along with Joseph. William and Lucinda died in Genesee County, Michigan and are buried in Avondale Cemetery. None of this will help anyone, probably, but you never know. And lastly, Marilyn do you have the book you mentioned, "Along the Susquehanna"? I would be interested in a copy, I think. Sorry to be so long. Marianne in really, really, cold Michigan
To those searching for lost 1812 soldiers! The Archives searches for a soldier upon request in the MILITIA records. They DO NOT then go and look in the U. S. ARMY INFANTRY records for your soldier, so when you receive a NOT FOUND, it could be due to a number of reasons. (1) spelling variations (2) inadequate or inaccurate information provided (3) He did not serve in the militia, he served in the U.S. Army Infantry (4) Etc., Etc. If you don't find in him a NARA Militia search. RETRY noting US ARMY Infantry. When you mention Erie County, do you mean in Pennsylvania? The PA State Archives has some muster Rolls for the War of 1812. Also, I requested pension information from the National Archives for my ancestor Frederick Fronk to find no file, But, I then requested any Bounty Land applications and he did apply in 1853, although he was denied. The application had a few good bits of information, like his birth date.
