My ancestor (Robert Henderson) is shown on the 1832 land lottery of Georgia as receiving a draw due to being a soilder. He is also listed as being from Lincoln County, GA. I requested his information from the Georgia Archives and they sent me information on a Robert Henderson from Jackson County, GA. Is there anyway I can get information on my Robert Henderson from Lincoln County? Thank you. Could you please check for the following: CAPT. DAVID FERGUSON 1786-1861 born and died in Blacklick, Indiana Co., PA (previously Westmoreland Co., PA) Supposedly his cemetery listing shows that he was a Captain in the War of 1812, married Anna Davis. Thank you, Rosemarie
I don't know how much information is in the files you are discussing, but...if you have an ancestor who was wounded or died in the War of 1812, there are wonderful files in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. There are two types of filings for 1812 soldiers. Heirs of the Soldier, who usually got Bounty Land circa 1818. Then, in the 1850's, they permitted widows to file for pensions. This means another set of files, and documentations. Anyone, please feel free to correct me if I am not quite right on the dates. The Virgil White books have the pension numbers. These pension numbers are the ones you use to order a file. I have only used them in DC, so do not know about sending for them. The NARA site will have that information. http://www.archives.gov/research_room/alic/reference_desk/military_resources /war_of_1812.html Here are the Library of Congress codes. Index to War of 1812 pension files / transcribed by Virgil D. White Library of Congress call number, E359.4 W45 1992. If you find something, here is the link to get forms to order the records from the National Archives: http://www.archives.gov/research_room/obtain_copies/military_and_genealogy_o rder_forms.html Good Luck. Hi group, I am still looking for information on George Prentice who served in the war of 1812 in Capt. Archibold McIntyre Battalion, New York militia. I would also like to find out anything I can about this particular Battalion there was suppose to be a Capt. Samuel Brant connected with the Battalion also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Carole Pacific NW jhollin@pacifier.com
My ancester Caleb Scofield who served in the 2nd Regiment, Van Hooks, NY Militia made application for Bounty Land under the act of Sept. 28, 1850, and received a Land Warrant, NO. 49.390 for 40 acres. Can someone tell me how I could find out where this land was/is? Were the soldiers paid with land? After his death, his widow applied for ..."the additional Bounty Land to which she may be entitled under the Act approved March 3, 1855" ... I have no record if she ever received this land. How can I check to see where this land may have been and if she ever received it? I would surely appreciate learning more about this! Gratefully, Patti Graman Dayton, OH
Hi Beverly, My CD (Generations Grande Suite, Historic Records, War of 1812) found 25 T. MURPHYs: Thomas, Thorntorn and Timothy. And 16 S. MURPHYs: Samuel, Sarah, Silas, Simon and Stephen. But none served from SC. Out of the 390 MURPHYs on the CD, the only ones serving from SC were: Aaron, Coll, Eli, Enoch, Ephraim, Henry, James, John, Simon, William and Willis. And the only ones serving from NC were: Cornelius, Daniel, John, Luke and Robert. Hi List, I am searching for information on Tarlton Murphy who was said to be in the War of 1812, by his son S. A. Murphy. Tarlton Murphy lived in Newberry Co. SC in 1820. Can anyone tell me about him, or tell me where I can search records for names in the war? Thanks for your help, Beverly
hi Folks The Govt of Upper Canada granted land as a free grant to those members of local militias that served in the war of 1812 (one had to apply as far as I know) How long did this practice continue (ie cut off date) I have run into a case where in 1850 the grandson of a person who supposedly served in the local militia made application for the 200 acres due his grandfather (both the grandfather and his father being dead) He is not listed in the OGS publication of those who drew land for service nor on the Land patent microfiche so it appears his claim was refused (ignored) Any one any idea of where I might find this info ? MANY THANKS bob moore St Thomas Ontario

Would anyone know of a book or journal location for Major (Col> Cyrenius Chapin ot the NY Miliita Dragoons. He was apparently incharge of the Canadian Volunteers in and around Niagara campaign 1813-1814, and was the surrendering officer at the burning of Buffalo NY (though the British didn't uphold the terms of surrender). REF: Men-at-Arms, No. 119, Osprey Military Publications. 37th Regiment Recruited North Hampshire, England If interested here is a British military researcher in England. If records are extant, he will research much more than muster rolls. Jim Beckett 34 Eastwood Avenue Droylsden Manchester M43 6BJ Jim's project is to complete a data base of soldiers and will research any British soldier discharged before 1855 for a small donation to continue his project. A few people I have directed to Jim have said they were very pleased. Good Luck Murray McCombs
Hello: I am new to this list and hope that I am doing this right. I am looking for a John Philips, I believe born in England. I know he fought in the War of 1812. If my information is correct he was in the 37 th Regiment of Foot, British Army. He fought at Gibraltar and Point Henry. My father has him born 7 Aug 1791 but no place and I don't have any source from my father. He also had his death as 11 June 1856 and again no place. I know he married in Hallowell, Prince Edward County, Ontario on 1 May 1821 to Catherine Smith. I have a copy of the marriage certificate. I also know through a cousin who had his family bible that he married twice and had 14 children. His 2nd wife was Mary Ann Dewell. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Carol
