    3. Thanks Scott, That's the information I needed. I'm finding that kind of information much more difficult to find for the War of 1812 than for the Revolutionary War or the Civil War. I appreciate your effort, Mary in Georgia, USA granmary@webtv.net http://community.webtv.net/granmary/family

    3. The information I have for War of 1812 veterans: Up to 1842 Bounty Land of 160 acres could be obtained in Arkansas, Illinois and Missouri for honorable discharge or heirs. Up to 1852 Bounty Land could not be sold or transferred. After 1842 Bounty Land was available in any state or territory where there was public land. In 1855 requirements for Bounty Land were reduced to 14 days service or were in a battle. Pensions were issued for those disabled and heirs of officers killed in action got a pension for five years. Pension law passed in 1871 allowed a pension for those with 60 days service or widows of servicemen if they had married before 1815. Pension law passed in 1878 changed the service requirement to 14 days, were in a battle or had a widow (no time frame for marriage). 3. Sorry I do not see that name in the surname index in the book nor the all name index published by the Wood County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Looked through the names around the one you are searching for to see anyone with the first name of Hugh - no luck. I have been in contact with the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus who have many unpublished documents and some regimental rosters from the War of 1812. They were planning on microfilming them, but that has been put off due to the cash flow problems of the State of Ohio (the politicians want the money for other purposes). These were not included in the rosters published in 1916. 3. According to the "Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War of 1812" originally published by the Adjutant General of Ohio in 1916: The 1st Regiment of Infantry, commanded by Colonel Duncan McArthur, was composed of 108 companies. Assume you are referring to Lieutenant Colonel John Andrews who was part of that unit. The book does not give the information you are looking for by regiment - it does have dates of service by company and some have the county where the men came from. Are you looking for a particular name or company? 1. Re: War of 1812: Shaler's 6th Infantry roster?
    2. Willow Bend Books - Craig R. Scott
    3. Shaler's 6th Infantry probably refers to Ephraim Shaylor who transfered to the 6th U.S. Infantry (from the 25th U.S. Infantry) 17 May 1815. He changed his name to Shaler in 1818 according to Heitman. Rosters of the 6th U.S. Infantry may be found in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. They are in Record Group 94 filled by Regiment and by Company Commander. C. Craig R. 3. Lists, I am new to both these lists, and am searching for a specific 1812 company (or regiment) roster. The information I have came from a military bounty land warrant document for Samuel MUNSELL. He received land in Arkansas. I do not know if if the land warrant reference to his rank as private in Shaler's 6th Infantry is to an Arkansas regiment or not. I would appreciate any information about how to obtain the roster from this company of infantry. Thanks in advance, Cordah R researching MUNSELL ancestors

    3. I was just going through the collected info in my Bullard notebook, and came across something I never followed up on....Hopefully, those of you with experience in the War of 1812 and Virginia troops can offer some advice. My ancestor George H. Bullard was a Pvt. in Captain John Quarles' co of Infantry, 16th Reg't, Virginia Militia and appears on the Co Pay Roll August 20-Sept 17, 1814, and Sept 18-22, 1814. However, the only thing on either is the Remark; Deserted. I find this fascinating and would like to know more. This didn't seem to be a "stain" on his name, as he was a successful planter, church elder, etc..... Where would I go to find out more about this? Any suggestions? Sandra

    3. I am trying to find out information about two very distant relatives that were in the war of 1812. My information is vauge though, and I was hoping for some clarification. The first name I'm looking for is John Baird. My information says he served as 2nd lieut. in Capt. Isaac Williams 1st regiment of Vol. Mounted Gunmen and also served in the same capacity in Capt. Williams 2nd regiment commanded by Coln. Newton ?? I don't know the last name. The second relative is his brother Robert, who also served in at least the 2nd regiment with John. I think this was in Kentucky, but could have been Alabama too. I was not given that info, or what company they were in. If you could provide me with any information regarding this part of the war, I would very greatly appreciate it!! 2. I have reason to believe that my gr gr grandfather, James Barker, fought in the War of 1812. He was from Vermont but may have been from Rhode Island before that. He was said to have been a Captain in the War of 1812 on the Great Lakes. I have searched many records and can find nothing. I have posted this before and have had suggestions but so far no luck. Just wanted to post it again to see if someone has any ideas. Do I need to know where he joined? It seems like if you know that you have a better change of finding someone. If I don't know that what are my chances of finding him? Coral in California

In Huntt's obituary, Elizabeth was referred to as the "widow of David Barsh, a Colonel in the War of 1812..." I have been unable to locate any military records related to the War of 1812 on David Barsh. Any information or suggestions on where to look will be greatly appreciated. 3. "Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky. Soldiers of the War of 1812", originally published 1891: pages 192 - 193: There is a Captain James Dyametto's Company that was part of the Kentucky Infantry under the command of Lieutenant Colonel William Dudley. It saw service from March 12, 1813 to September 12, 1813. There is a Joseph Nicholas listed as a Private. There are notations next to some of the names on the roster that they were paroled by the enemy on May 5, 1813, escaped to Fort Meigs or were taken off by Indians on same date. Joseph Nicholas has no remarks next to his name. As your ancestor was in the regiment commanded by Colonel Dudley, he may have been part of the attack on the British Batteries to the north of Fort Meigs and across the Maumee River. Dudley and many of his men were killed on May 5, 1813 during that battle Roster does not indicate from where the regiments and / or companies were raised, other than they rendezvoused at Newport, Kentucky.
