Does anyone know of Captain McClure's Company, North Carolina Milita? Where was it formed? Who was Captain McClure? The history of the unit? Champ LANGFORD was in this unit. Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net>
Does anyone have War of 1812 Christian Lefevre (Lefevre, Lefeber) officer in "German" unit of Frederick Co. Maryland volunteers? Perhaps only served in a Ohio Militia. A Christian Lefever was listed as LeSever as providing forage for troop supplies. Morris LeFever

Hello, Can anyone tell me how or where I can get information on the following regiment? I found this information on Ancestry.com's "War of 1812 Service Redords". COMSTOCK ALEXANDER M, 19 REG'T (BLOOM'S), NEW YORK MILITIA. S.MATE S.MATE Roll44 602 Thank you. Patti
Listmembers, Captain John DuBose organized a group of SeaFencibles probably in Bladen Co., NC during the early monthos of the War of 1812. Where may I find information on that particular group of SeaFencibles and on the life of Captain John DuBose? Thanks. fran fpowellsr@starpower.net
I'm trying to confirm if there was an Elisha Clark who fought in the War of 1812 at the Battle of Plattsburgh, which took place in Sep 1814. He was definitely living in Tinmouth, VT, in 1808 and in Peru, Cliinton County, NY in 1815. There is also an Elisha Clark's from Halifax, VT but that is the wrong Elisha Clark. Does anyone have any info. on him or perhaps can suggest where I should look further to verify his involvement in this battle. He supposedly had a brother who also participate in this battle whose name was either Robert or Julius. Thank you very much. Carol White
Currently I know nothing about David P. Heath except that his widow Lucy Heath qualified for a five year half pay pension under the Act of 16 April 1816. I also know that she received a payment in 1818 while a resident of Franklin Co., Vt. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of this payment file please contact me. C. Craig R. Am trying to confirm if there is a David P. Heath listed in the War of 1812. He was from Vermont, probably Johnson. I was told he died in the War of 1812. Thank you, Dot
There is no listing for the death of a David Heath in the " Known Military dead during the war of 1812,"by Clarence Peterson, which doesn't mean he didn't die. There is a David Heath listed as serving from Corinth that volunteered to go to Plattsburgh Sept. 1814, and served in the Company of Captn Ebenezer Spence of Vershire in Vermont. I have been told that my ancestor, Larkin SWAFFORD, served in Capt. Matthew Cowan's Co., 3rd Regt. (Roulston's) West Tenn. Militia during the War of 1812. Hello, Researchers, I just jointed the list because I am searching for information on my 3rd GGrandfather, Capt. Dominick Bader. He fought in the Battle of Bladensburg, was captured by the British and later released. I need information on his DOB, POB, parents, siblings, DOD, POD, etc. He married twice: 1800 and 1802 in Baltimore. Seems he had only daughters. If anyone has the book The Roster and Register of the General Society of the War of 1812, ed. by Dennis F. Blizzard, Dominick is supposedly listed there on pages 358 and 360. I'd appreciate any info! Any other descendants out there? Thank you! Denise

I have just joined the list hoping to find someone knowledgeable on the various militia regiments that were formed during the War of 1812. I have several locations that I am researching - Frederick Co. MD and Loudoun Co. MD but right now I am concentrating on Middletown, Frederick Co. MD. Does anyone on the list have any information or suggestions of which of the Maryland Militia Regiments was recruited from Middletown, Frederick Co., MD? I am looking for a John Young -- in the Ancestry.com War of 1812 database there are 174 John Youngs listed - about 25 of them found in the various Maryland Regiments. In the book "Frederick County Militia in the War of 1812" by Sallie A. Mallick & F. Edward Wright there are 5 John Youngs - but the details that are offered do not single out which (if any) is my John Young. Since my John Young was born, lived his life and is buried in Middletown, Frederick Co. MD I am hoping that when he enlisted to fight in the War of 1812 it would have been in Middletown, MD. - but which regiment?? I have ordered a number of War of 1812 records from NARA in connection with ancestors in Loudoun Co. VA and have received some that are disappointingly skimpy and some that are chocked full of great details. I have been lucky in that the Virginia group had less common names but I am also interested in knowing if there is information available on where the various War of 1812 Militia Regiments for Virginia originated (particularly 60 Reg't., Minor's, VA Militia, 56 Reg't., Taylor's, VA Militia & 57 Reg't., VA Militia). Thank you for any help or direction that you are able to offer, Susan McIntyre

If a soldier or his widow got a pension, usually the bounty land files are combined with the pension. But this should never prevent a person from looking for an "unindexed" bounty land file. They are filed by soldiers name and unit. There are other land office files outside of the pension which would also be available on microfilm (such as warrants) or survey reports (in RG49). C. Hello, I am a new subscriber to this list, and probably won't be here very long. I just need to know how to properly fill out the NATF 85 form to request a copy of the pension file for my ggg-grandfather who served in the War of 1812 in Vermont. In block 3, it asks what branch of the service -- Army, Navy or Marine Corps. I have no idea what to put there. I'm assuming Army, but I'm not sure. How can I know for sure what the correct response is there? Also, in block 7, it asks whether Infantry, Cavalry or Artillery if the veteran was in the Army. I have no idea what to put there, if anything. I also don't know what to put for block 8 (rank -- officer or enlisted) or block 9 (kind of service -- volunteer or regulars). All I do know is that my ggg-grandfather, Eli SMITH Jr. fought with Capt. Samuel Wheeler's Company in Vermont. Any suggestions for how to properly fill out this form? Also, I put both the WC- number and the SC- number in the space for Pension File Number -- I assume this is appropriate? -- Thanks for any suggestions, Mary Taffet Syracuse, NY mdtaffet@syr.edu
Another question: The Bounty Land Warrants and the Pension files are consolidated for the Revolutionary War, and you get both when you request NARA pension info on an individual. Is this true for the War of 1812? Thanks for the responses---- Mary in Georgia, USA granmary@webtv.net http://community.webtv.net/granmary/family
Both militia and regulars killed, died of wounds or died of disease were eligible for five year half-pay pensions under the act of 16 April 1816. Not just officers, but enlisted also. The records for these pensions are found in RG 217, Records of the Accounting Officers of the U.S. in several series. They are not a part of the material that is normally described as War of 1812 pensions in the National Archives. C. Craig R.
