    1. Captain McClure's Company, North Carolina Mil.
    2. Bill Allen
    3. Can anyone tell me about Captain McClure's Company, North Carolina Mil.? A CD said Champ LANGFORD fought the War of 1812 in that unit. But I haven't been able to verify that. I did find that in 1812 he married in Haywood Co., NC and moved to St. Clair Co., AL. Could he have fought in the War in NC, gotten married in NC and moved to AL all in 1812? Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net>

    1. Information
    2. I am new to your list. So please let me know if I am searching in the right place. I am looking for information on a James Nations. It is said that he was a veteran of the War of 1812. James Nations was born Jan 6, 1791 (in Tennessee?) I am seeking information as to where he joined and served. It has been suggested that James Nations was from Tennessee - but I am not sure if that is true. Or where in Tennessee he may have been from - except that it must have been eastern TN at that time. What information I do have is this: That James Nations served in the War of 1812 as a private in Captain Steele's Co., 2nd Regiment, Tennessee Mounted Volunteers, from Sept. 1814 to April 1815. It is also thought that a Nathanial Nations also served and could possibly be his brother. His father's name: Joseph Nations. I would like to confirm what information I have and perhaps get more information on the family, etc. Any suggestions or help you could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Edith

    1. New York soldiers of War of 1812
    2. Is there a list of soldiers online for New York or Vermont that served in the War of 1812. Family lore says our James Barker b. about 1797 served in the War and was on the Great Lakes. I think he is the James Barker listed in the census of St. Lawrence Co, NY in 1840. He was in Vermont 1810 and 1820. What would be the best way to follow this lead? Coral in California

    3. There is a John Tolar who served in Truehart's Regiment (1st Virginia Regiment) who died at Camp Bottoms, Virginia (along the James River). The only record of this death is in Mary Cameron's pension application in 1855. John was married to Mary Parsons, daughter of Woodson Parsons. She later married a William Cameron. She is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. My ancestor. Craig Craig R. 1. RE: Is there an index to check if someone served in the war?
    2. Scott Baker
    3. There is a published index to the pension files: "Index to War of 1812 Pension Files", transcribed by Virgil D. White. The National Historical Publishing Company, Waynesboro, Tennessee, 1989. It is three volume hard bound set of those who received / applied for a pension. Some are widows pension (may be of great value as the wife had to prove not only the service of her husband - but also her marriage, as my ancestor died early and his widow's pension is a mine of information). Many of the larger libraries have these books. Ancestory.com has a CD-ROM, 'Military Records: WAR OF 1812 MUSTER ROLLS', Item #2019 for sale. The web site says it has a searchable database of 580,000 names. 1. Jeremiah Brown's Co. of NY Militia
    2. My ggggrandfather, Joseph VanSant (VanZandt) was drafted or enlisted at Carlisle Schoharie Co. the 20th day of Sept. 1814 in Capt. Brown's Co. and was discharged at Plattsburgh on the 16 day of December 1814. (According to Nat Archives Papers). Does anyone have any information on this Company? Joseph married Elizabeth Polk (near relative to James K. Polk) in Feb. 1817 in Carlisle. Some of the family were; William Vanzandt, John Vanzandt, Rosy VanZandt, and William Polk. I am intererest in any information on these people. Some of these people lived at Grovner's Corners. Another source states Jeremiah Brown's Co. was a Volunteer group (two groups) from Troy arrived to guard the provisions at French Mills on the St. Regis Indian Reservation. Barrels of salted beef were marked US Beef "Uncle Sam Beef", they said it meant. Uncle Sam Wilson , a Troy beef contractor soon found his caricuture had become a National Symbol. North Countrymen not happy with this war, referred sourly to the government that gave it to them as "Uncle Sam". Please, any help would be appreciated. I know these people were in the 1820 census for Carlisle and any information on them would be greatly appreciated. Gary, Canton, NY
