    3. I am new to the list, and I have a similar question as Betty Cason. Not only am I looking for Rosters, but is there somewhere where I could find what state my ancestral fought from. I have some bounty land records which mentions the unit they were in, but not the state. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Joyce McDaniel Hennessy

    1. Rosters
    2. Hi, I'm new to the list and this is probably a silly question, but does anyone know if there are complete rosters on line. I'm trying to verify that my ancestor, Col. John Foster, service in the War of 1812 and during this time period he would have been in Kentucky (going by census info on where most of his children were born.) He did finally settle in Tennessee where he died in 1857. I have found some rosters for Kentucky but they are not complete. Thanks much. Betty Cason

    3. Hello, I just subscribed.I'm hoping that somebody can help me with this little puzzle. The following is information provided by Zimri Baxter (1807-1887) about his father, William Baxter (1784-1815): "When I was young my parents move to Gnore, Synga County, New York. Father William enlisted in the United States Army in a war with England in 1814 and in 1815 he died of Typhoid Fever." I think that the county is Seneca. As for the rest..? What I am trying to do is find some information that will lead me to documentation that links Zimri Baxter to William Baxter, husband of Rebecca Priest. Thanks in advance! Cynthia Baxter

    3. Yes, it just depends on where his records are. I did well on some and was out of luck on others but that led me to find several in state records. One of mine I did not get but a cousin did and he did very well. On one they told me to ck the Va records on a Rev War Vet. Quinta Has anyone on this forum had luck in getting service, pension or land warrant records on their 1812 ancestors from NARA? Before I try, I'd just like to know if there is any chance of success. 2. Thanks to all who responded to my query about the successs of getting records from NARA on 1812 veterans, especially to those who answered the question! For those interested: 99% did indeed get records concerning their 1812 ancestor and were quite satisfied with the results. You pay only if NARA does find something. 3. Bernice, Go to your search engine, use Google. Type in; Battle of Little York 1812. A number of good information items will come up including other researchers that had ancestors in the " Battle of York" 27, April 1813 which appears to be one and the same, as The Battle of Little York" There is about a page written on the battle in "The Encyclopedia of the War of 1812" Heidler & Heidler. They also list " The Battle of York" by Carl Benn for further reading. York was the name for Toronto, Ontario at this time. Can't seem to find your Benoni Paule. He must be listed in something I don't have. 3. Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Major Archibald McIntyre's Battalion, New York, light infantry. My ancestor George Prentice served with him in 1814 and was suppose to be at the battle of Lundy Lane. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. 2. I received the pension file for my ggg gf. It was a treasure trove of information, the key to the whole line, worth the money, worth the wait (I waited a year, they lost my application, long story). You never know what is in there. I suggest sending for it. Kathryne

    2. Carol White
    3. Denise - Yes, I just received the pension papers for my ancestor Sherman R. Redfield who was from Fitzwilliam, NH, and was stationed for 73 days near Portsmouth, NH. The records stated that he received land warrant but that's all it said. I have no idea if he actually received land or not or perhaps I don't understand what land warrant means. This was a widow's pension application. HE had already died. What can I help you with? 2. Susan McIntyre
    3. I assume you have checked the NARA site and know that you need to send a separate form for each request category (service, pension, warrants) which have to be ordered from NARA. What you receive will vary - I have received some "packages" full of detailed information and some with just a single sheet verifying the regiment and time of service. The fees for each request vary but are not payable unless records are located and you choose to complete the request/transaction. They notify you what their search has found (if anything) and you then return the form and payment. So until that point all you are "out" is the price of an envelope and stamp - a pretty good deal compared to the organizations that require payment in advance (regardless of results). 3. I sent for the pension record for my War of 1812 ancestor, Abner Gaddis, late of the Fayette County, Pennsylvania Volunteer Militia under Captain Collins. He died in the 1850's, but his widow applied and received the pension. She had to prove not only his service, but also her marriage. He applied for a land warrant, but died shortly there-after. His application is included in the pension file. I also sent for the records for his first cousin, Rice Gaddis, who was in the same unit. In both files the original handwritten discharges were included. Apparently they had sent them in when applying for land as proof of military service - no doubt that is why the discharges are still extent. I sent for his military file; nothing there but one sheet of paper saying he was a Private in the above unit. It was not original, but a form filled out by the National Archives that had been copied from the original roster. My two cents.
