    3. Yes, veterans of the War of 1812 and their widows received pensions, if they lived long enough. Martha Byal Gaddis, widow of Abner Gaddis - late of the Fayette County Militia of Pennsylvania - and my lineal ancestor received a pension. She had to prove not only his service but also her marriage. The set of books: 'Index to War of 1812 Pension Files', transcribed by Virgil D. White, published by The National Historical Publishing Company, Waynesboro, Tennessee, 1989 is in many of the larger libraries. 1. richerson; War of 1812
    2. PH Gillaspy
    3. Note the surname spelling, R icherson. Sometime back at the LDS Family Library,SLC, UT, searching thru the books on the War of 1812, State of Ohio I came across a page that listed in column the surnames of several Richersons, of particular interest was one with given name "Orlando". My grandfather Richerson and Uncle Richerson , their given first name was Orlando. I do know my ggrandfather Richerson was in the War of 1812 so knowing that names are handed down this could be my direct ancestor.. Unfortunately, I was called away at that moment and was unable to return. I have had another individual search but no luck. I ask all subscribers, having War of 1812 books to check for the surname Richerson and if successful, ID the book and any other pertinent info and let me know. Thanks in advance. phg2@softcom.net

    1. TN Roster
    2. I checked out the web site previously mentioned for the TN Units for the War of 1812. It is wonderful and gives a lot of good information. However, I am seeking to find a roster of the enlisted men....and not just the officers. Is there anywhere on line where this information can be obtained? I need to confirm that my ancestor (James Nations) and perhaps his brother, Nathaniel were indeed in Capt. Steel's Co., 2nd Regiment, TN Mounted Volunteers, from Sept. 1814 to April 1815. Would appreciate any suggestions on how I could verify this. Thanking you in advance. Edith

    3. "The History of Washington County" states; "But while the military History of Washington County in the War of 1812 was very slight , that contest had a marked effect on its industrial progress." A liitle later on it does state that one of the regiments was commanded by a Lt. Col. John Mclary of Salem, yet when the Regiment was called out for Plattsburg Capt. William Root was in charge. When you go to look Mclary up, you can't locate the Regt. as Mclary is spelled McCleary in the rolls. It was also called (MCCleary's) 50th Regiment of New York Militia. There were 541 listed as having served in this regiment. Normally you can turn up the Officers first name, ( Stewart's) but as of yet I can't run the name down. It cold be the same situation as the 50th Reg. aforementioned. McCleary was named in charge at the formation of the Reg't., but was no longer in charge when the Reg't went out, and MCCleary is not listed on the rolls. This could be the reason why Stewart is not listed on the 121st. There were 701 listed as having served in this Regiment. 3. Questions. Did each State do their own "thing" with Rosters & Roll Calls? Why is it so hard to find New York's? Does the Adj. Gen. Reports give these names? Militia is State. Draftees were also called by State. So does that mean the enlisted are Gov't? Caroline

    3. Don't know if it is 'on-line', but the published rosters for Kentucky were printed by Adjutant General in 1891: "Kentucky Soldiers of the War of 1812" re-print Clearfield Company, 1995. There are eight men with the name John Foster and one with Jonathan Foster in the index - none were officers. There is a web site for Tennessee Units for the War of 1812: http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/1812reg.htm Do not see an index, the regiments are in order by commanding officer. I'm trying to verify that my ancestor, Col. He did finally settle in Tennessee where he died in 1857. I have found some rosters for Kentucky but they are not complete. Thanks much.
