Hello, I have been looking for a Timothy Harr Richard From the Shores of Grand Traverse Bay
Hi, The following was allegedly printed in a St. Louis newspaper sometime following the death of my ancestor John DeRoques (1783 - 1857). I have been unable to verify the article's existance, no idea the name of the newspaper, or the date, and have been unable to find any info. on the author. The majority of the article, is to have been taken from my ancestor's journal, and contains info. on different battles, locations, and mentions several different officers. I do not know if the journal still exists, or who might have it, if it does. So make your own judgement on the validity of any of this, just thought I would share it, as it makes interesting reading, if nothing else! I would welcome any comments or any info. that might verify or disprove any of the facts in the story. (this ancestor is listed on the rolls for the 7th Regiment, Infantry, as a musician) Thank you, Paula Schuler The article is on my genealogy website, use this link to read it. http://www.deadzoom.com/member/oneofakind/index-page4.html _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

Hello, I am new to the list and would like to know if anyone knows how to find information on the above Regiment. Caleb CLARK was my gg-grandfather, and he was in Capt. McIver's regiment. There were some other Clarks in the same regiment: Allen, maybe Jabez, William and John. My Caleb was drafted at Darlington District, SC and mustered out in Orangeburg, SC. He named his first two sons John and William. We don't know who Caleb's parents were, but we know he is from the Penelope JOHNSON/Christopher CLARK family of Louisa Co., VA. This was discovered from a Clark Family DNA test. I would love to know more about these other CLARKs who were in Capt McIver's regiment. Caleb did not file for a pension - he died in 1857 in Talladega Co., AL; having moved there from Hall Co., GA and then to Cobb Co., GA. He did apply for bounty land and I have that file. Is there some place I could find more information on Capt. McIver's regiment? Thanks, and have a wonderful evening. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX clarksha@swbell.net
Looking for any information regarding to Harrison Witherspoon (Weatherspoon) who served in the 1st regiment of Tennessee militia in the service of the US, commanded by Colonol Philip Pipkin, from June 20, 1814 to January 27, 1815. Harrison's Captain was George Mebane and was a 4th Corporal. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Pam Witherspoon Campbell --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! The following site does mention a gathering of troops at "Pass Christiana, Louisiana" http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/R&H/R&H-1IN.htm in 1815. But the Pass Christian, MS, historical community includes a record of a gathering of troops (during that same decade) as a part of their early history: http://www.frogbellies.com/passchristianhistory/historyof/antebell.htm. The solution? Some of the maps of the Louisiana Purchase indicate that the part of the Gulf coast where Pass Christian. MS is now located was at that time (1803-1819) a part of "Louisiana": http://www.jmu.edu/madison/louispurchase.htm http://www.washington.edu/uwired/outreach/cspn/hstaa432/lesson_4/louisiana.html Elaine Pronounced "Pass Christi-ann"
Sorry, Typo error should have read Pass Christiana, a on the end. Dorothy

I would be most appreciative if someone could search for the service listing of one Daniel Elliot(t) of Maine. He would have resided in either York or Cumberland Counties (Maine) in 1812. Ladies and Gentlemen. Over a year ago, I brought to the attention of the members, a serious problem here in Toronto. The Dean at St. James' Cathedral applied for a letter of closure to sell the adjacent cemetery (PRIME Real estate) to erect a condo which would have towered over the Cathedral's Spire, the second highest in North America. The 3000 plus skeleton remains would have been disposed of later, no indication of where and how. Some of these would have contained British, Canadian and American veterans of the Capture of York (Toronto), April 27, 1813. Our opposition forced him to withdraw this application. Now, once again into the fray, he sold a portion of the air rights, which he does not own, and wishes to do excavations and shoring to remodel existing offices on the sight. The graves are once again under attack. Numerous remains are found 2-3 feet below the parking surface. Yes, the grave site was paved over for parking. They were excavating last summer when 2 trenches 60x4x8 feet were dug in the cemetery. Now, the US Casualties on that date was 52 soldiers and 3 seamen killed and a total of 222 wounded, some of whom died later in York. I have acquired some 17 names and names only of 3 whose bodies were returned to Sacketts Harbour - Zebulon Pike and Midshipmen Hatfield and Thompson. Can any one supply additional names and possible burial sites. Sacketts Harbour only shows Pike buried there. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, we go back to the city council once again on July 8th to voice our opposition.
Did John Mary Menard born March 31 1798 husband of Julia Martin fight in the 1812 War? There is a Roster listing a Jean Marie Menard in Jacques Martin's Company of infantry from the 2nd Regiment of Michigan Militia, John Anderson Commanding (Monroe). Any info would be appreciated.
There is a James Oliphant who was a private in Captain William F. Buyers Company, 77th Regiment Pennsylvania Militia. Do not see the surname in the published rosters of Ohio and Kentucky. You might contact the National Archives for a military or pension record. Ohio counties have a graves registration program for veterans of all wars, by state law the recorders office in the courthouse has the information. I have personally used these to find the cemetery, dates of birth and death as well as the service of veterans of the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War and Spanish American War buried in several counties in central Ohio. Of course no record is perfect. Only a week to go and Woodland Cemetery will be having its Sesquicentennial (150th) Celebration. This celebration is to honor the history and all people buried there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohclecem/woodland150.html A few additional notes: If you don't know where your ancestors are located, there will be index books on hand to look up where they are at. There will be port-a-johns on site since the cemetery does not have bathrooms or an office. If you are worried about the neighborhood or parking, there will be regular police, auxiliary police and traffic controllers on duty that day along with EMS. As for people wondering if they need a police escort or to carry a gun while going there any other time is a complete myth. I have been there many times by myself and never had any problems there. So please, if you can't make the event go another time. It is a wonderful beautiful cemetery. Just be a little cautious no matter what cemetery you are in. Even the ones you think are the safest may have an incident. Remember to bring a picnic basket, lawn chair, camera and have fun. I hope to see you there next Saturday (Pray no rain!!.) Michelle A.
