Have an obituary that says her "Grandfather Richerson served in the War of 1812". No given name or location. Obit was in a Kokomo, IN newspaper. The only hints I have service may have been either in Kentucky or Ohio and given name, grandfather or brother is Orlando. Note the surname spelling. Thanks a million for any info. From past observations you fellows can do a wonderful job. Over & Out PHG
Henry Beamer - Beemer Private in Lieut. Colonel Joseph Willcocks Detachment Canadians U. S. Volunteers Roll 13 - record 1923, also listed under Henry Beemer in the same unit roll 14 - 2188. also in these units was a John Force, but not a Noah Force. I would not pass up the Henry Beamer Beemer listed in the 51st Regiment (Amey's) Maryland Militia; Henry Beamer, roll 13 - 1923; Henry Beemer, roll 14 - 2189. There were several Beamer's listed in New Jersey Regiments and a few in New York Regiments, one being in a Regiment near the Canadian Border I believe. Lt. Colonel Joseph Willcocks later commanded a Calvary unit in New York. The Force name was listed in New Jersey but there were no Noahs listed in the CMSR indexes for the 1812 war. I'd keep your mind open while searching for these two, as I in tracking a number of my surname, found they went back and forth across the border like it didn't exist. Some went up at the rumor of war in 1808 and went back to the US when war broke out, some servered in the US, then returned to Canada, some didn't return to Canada, others that did return to Canada in 1816, had been collecting US Pensions for Rev. War service, and others stayed at the outbreak and served in the Canadian Militia. No Rhyme, reason or consistency to it. Patrick My 4th gr grandfather, Noah Force and 5th gr grandfather, Hendrick (Henry) Beamer(Beemer) were from New Jersey. They fought in the War of 1812 but fled to Canada.....I understand that Noah could have been tried for treason. They settled in the Woodstock area of Ontario..... Any idea's as to where I may find info on these two.....

Hi - I am trying to obtain information about my-4g grandfather, Francis Weaver, who ended up in Chelmsford MA as foreman of the Middlesex Glassworks. According to the obit of his son, Samuel Hunt Weaver, Francis, born in Prussia, was initially with Napoleon's Army and "escaped" to the British Army just before the battle of Jena. It goes on to state that, while in America with the British Army in 1812, Francis "gave the British the slip" (which I translate into "deserted") and ended up in Chelmsford, marrying Naomi Hunt, of the Revolutionary War hero Hunts. I am trying to find out if there is any list or other information available about these British "recruits" and "deserters". He was reportedly quite an interesting character, and I am interested in learning more about him. Thanks Susan in Georgia

Hello, My ggg-grandfather Joseph L. Swallow was a Captain in the Luzerne Co., Pa., Militia, according to The Shoemaker Book, page 78. It says that on June 26, 1813, "Captains Peter Hallock, Joseph Swallow, Daniel David and Elijah Ayres, all of the 35th Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia, published in the Gleaner, a call for a meeting at Jenkins' Ferry, Pittston." How might I go about finding out more about Joseph L. Swallow's military history? Is it possible to find records on him? I'm new at this so need all the advice I can get. Thank you for any info you send my way! Cheryl

A William Henry received a Land Patent in Arkansas for service as a Private in Bells Corps of Light Infantry during the War of 1812. No John Henry listed as receiving a patent. Many War of the 1812 Vets received land patents there for their service. Jim Shepherd
The book 'Deep Water Sailors, Shallow Water Soldiers. Manning the United States Fleet on Lake Erie - 1813', by Gerard T. Altoff, 1993, has a listing of the men who were on board the ships under the command of Perry on Lake Erie. It includes those in the US Army, US Marines, Pennsylvania Militia and Rhode Island Volunteers that volunteered to serve on board ship. It was compiled from published rosters and manuscripts. I do not see a John Henry listed; there is a William Henry of the 147th Pennsylvania who was on board the 'Niagara'. In case I am not the only newbie who does not know what CMSR stands for, it stand for Compiled Military Service Records (CMSR). Charles (CKR, another list member, said in his posting, "Each volunteer soldier has one Compiled Military Service Record (CMSR) for each regiment in which he served." Patrick wrote on 3/8/2004 (mailto:Patrick20@comcast.net) in response to my question about what CMSR stood for Lee Anne. go to rootsweb.com, click on message boards. then browse all topics, then military, then I think 1812, might be wars then 1812, but when on the 1812 section click on general board and key CMSR in the search area being sure to put the little dot in the general board area otherwise it will give you 2000 entries instead of the 6 or so listed on this board explaining what a CMSR is, and how to obtain one. Hello, I am a member of this list, and would like to know if there is anyone on this list that wrote out all the Powells in the War of 1812. I have this list somewhere, but cannot find it. I cannot remember if it was on the Digest or List from rootsweb.com. Would like to know who wrote the list, or how to go about finding it. I would like who ever answers this question, to please write me at this email address: springerpc@msn.com Thank you very much for any help. Pat (Powell) Springer
