Here's another unit I'd like to know more about: Another possible ancestor, John White, enlisted in Capt. Shirley's Company, Barbee's Regiment, Kentucky Militia. He signed up in August 1812 for six months' service. Did this unit see any action? Later, in 1813, John also enlisted in Taul's Regiment, Kentucky Volunteers--rendezvoused at Newport, KY on August 31, 1813. He was on the roll of Capt. Samuel Tate's Company--to serve till November 14, 1813. However, a note on the roster says, "Left behind." What can you tell me about these two regiments? I think I found a great-grandfather on theroster of a Kentucky regiment: Pvt. John Sampson (or Samson, or Sansom), Capt. William Young's Company, First Regiment, Kentucky Light Dragoons John was from western VA (Tazewell County), later settling in east KY (Pike County). This unit was enlisted on August 27, 1812; till October 31, 1812. So, essentially two-months. I'm presuming they did not see much action, if any at all! In fact, I see many units had similar organizations--on the ready for a call-up to real action, if needed. Still, honrable service, right? :) What can you tell me about this Regimnt? Gary, a Private Joseph Vansant served in Captain Jeremiah's Company in Lt. Colonel John Prior's New York Militia Regiment. (Prior's) He received a pension SC-7767 and also his widow Elizabeth under WC-10012. Joseph Vansant's CMSR # is 215-1808. Hope this is him as there are a couple of them in New York Regiments, which actually could be the same person. The DAR has a Patriot Index Lookup Service for Revolutionary War veterans. The National Park Service has the Civil War Soldiers And Sailors System web site to lookup Civil War veterans. Is there a similar lookup service or web site for veterans of the War of 1812? Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net>
Does anyone have either a book or CD that lists the patriots who served in the War of 1812? If so, would you please do a look-up? I am interested in the service of John Kneeland, of Topsfield, Mass. His spouse was Rhoda Hobbs. Thank you in advance, Shari Kelley Worrell

Are there any websites that will tell about particular units of the war, such as where a unit might have organized or the person who led the unit might have signed his men up. I am not very familiar with this. I am searching for information of an ancestor who was of the correct age to have served in this war, but I have no idea if he did or not. He lived in Giles Co., TN. in 1850. I believe he was there by 1836 as I have found him on a tax list for that year. In 1840, however, I don't find his name on the census records for Giles Co., but he was on the 1850 Giles Census. I haven't located him in 1860, but I think he probably had died by this time. He was born circa 1787 in Kentucky according to census records. I have no idea where in Kentucky. Since he was in Tennessee (Giles) by 1836, I have checked Byron and Samuel Sistler's book, Tennesseans in the War of 1812. I have found 11 listings for my name--William Scott---13 listings if I count Wilie Scott's. I suppose his wife could have drawn a pension and I haven't checked for that yet, since I don't have any particulars about his war record or even if he had one. Can anyone help me on this? I really just need something---a book or website that could tell where these particular units the 13 Wilie/William Scott's served in were raised. This would help me possibly determine if my William Scott did indeed serve in this War. Judy K. Sanders

Looking for any information I can find on service for my ancestor, Josiah Kellog(g). The name has been spelled with both one and two g s, but mot often with one. He served in RW with the 2nd CT Rgmt, but lived in Ferrisburgh, Addison County, VT. Information I have leads me to believe that he also served and was permanently lamed in the War of 1812. He d in 1837 in Cuyahoga County, OH. I am in the process of requesting a headstone for him, and just feel it would be appropriate to honor all of his service to this country. Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated. Bill King
My ggggggrandfather Samuel C. Killian b. 1762- d. Dec. 30, 1813 Hickory, Catawba or Lincoln Co. North Carolina. Is there any record of this man serving in the revolution? Doug Killian

Here's another unit in which two southern cousins served: The 8th Regiment, Lincoln County Militia, NC My ancestors were: Absalom Bumgarner John Kistler (or Kessler) Does anyone know where they would have been assigned, seen action? Any chance they hooked up with General Jackson in 1814-15?
