    3. The POW records at Halifax have 1,350 men of the US Army incarcerated there during the War of 1812, most being transferred from Quebec. One man was identified as in the 22nd US Infantry: Robert McCaan, Private He was captured at 40 Mile Creek by Indians on June 8, 1813. He was interned at Melville Island Prison on November 9, 1813 having been taken there on the the HMS Diadam. He was discharged May 31, 1814 to the Matilda Cartel for exchange. Most of those identified by regiment were from the 14th and 23rd Regiments. 3. Good Morning, Sorry that I can not be more definite in my reply to you, but I have in a matter of days acquired a viral infection. My symptoms are similar to osteoarthritis . Pain in both soldiers, fingers (esp thumbs) and legs so I am not too active. It can last from a few weeks to months. Therefore I find it difficult to hold books to read and make notes. It is also embarrassing when 'little old ladies' with their walkers ask me to move aside as I am slowing them down. One must keep his sense of humour alive. Here are three books that should help you and no doubt your library will have them. i) The Incredible War of 1812 - J. Mackay Hitsman, Updated by Donald Graves ISBN 1-896941-13-3 The finest one-volume history of the War of 1812 ii) Where Right and Glory Lead - The Battle of Lundy' Lane, 1814 Donald E. Graves ISBN 1-896941-03-6 iii) Red Coats & Grey Jackets - The Battle of Chippawaq, 5 July 1814 Donald E. graves ISBN 1-55002-210-5 If anyone has any information on the 22nd during the War of 1812 I would appreciate the help. 3. According to family lore, my ancestor, CURTIS ALLEN was killed in the war of 1812. He lived in the Cayuga-Seneca area of NY. The only military reference to Curtis Allen I have found is in the MILITARY MINUTES of COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS of the STATE of NY dated 1807. He appears as a Lieut. in a Battalion commanded by Major Joe Burges, listed under Cayuga County. I am looking for any info. regarding Curtis's participation in the war and also where he died. 3. Ladies and Gentlemen. Over two years ago, I brought to the attention of the members, a serious problem here in Toronto. The Dean at St. James' Cathedral applied for a letter of closure to sell the adjacent cemetery (PRIME Real estate) to erect a condo which would have towered over the Cathedral's Spire, the second highest in North America. The 3000 plus skeleton remains would have been disposed of later, no indication of where and how. Some of these would have contained British, Canadian and American veterans of the Capture of York (Toronto), April 27, 1813. Our opposition forced him to withdraw this application. Now, the US Casualties on that date was 52 soldiers and 3 seamen killed and a total of 222 wounded, some of whom died later in York. I have acquired some 17 names and names only of 3 whose bodies were returned to Sacketts Harbour - Zebulon Pike and Midshipmen Hatfield and Thompson. Can any one supply additional names and possible burial sites. Sacketts Harbour only shows Pike buried there. A lady gave me her relative's name as follows Benona/Benoni Paule/ Pauley 6th Regiment of Infantry. I have searched for confirmation of this name or even a nominal roll of the Regiment. Alas no success. It would be most appreciative if someone would assist me, to fill in the list as much as possible for the records here in Toronto. 2. I am looking for information on Joseph Aubrey/Awberry/Awbrey/Avery or any such spelling. I have information that he was in the War of 1812 in a unit from KY but for the life of me I can't put me hands on his Capt.'s name. I want to say Patterson/Paterson. This is all I know. He got land grants in MO after the war and ended up with a lot of land. I have been looking for a list of units and the personal in them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The book: 'Kentucky Soldiers of the War of 1812', Adjutant General of Kentucky, 1881: --- Thomas Williamson, Private, Captain James Hall's Company, 2nd Company, Third Regiment, Kentucky Detached Militia. September 1, 1812 - December 25, 1812. Thomas Williamson, Private, Captain William Walker's Company, 7th Company, Third Regiment, Kentucky Detached Militia. September 1, 1812 - December 25, 1812. Thomas Williamson, Private, Captain Thomas Kincheloe's Company, Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia. June 24, 1813 - July 25, 1813. --- The book: 'Kentucky in the War of 1812, A. C. Quisenberry, 1915: William Russell, Colonel of the 7th US Army, included in his command Captain Kincheloe's Company. The 7th US Infantry saw action in what is now Illinois and Indiana. Nicholas Miller, Lieutenant Colonel of the 3rd Regiment Militia, was at Vincennes in 1812. On the surface, your Thomas Williamson may have been in the Third Regiment of Militia. It is not stated if both names in the 2nd Company and 7th Company referred to the same man. Of course, as the enlistment dates are different for the 7th US and the 3rd Kentucky, he could have been in both. 3. I'm sure by now you have seen all the instances of Andrew Straub in the Pennsylvania Archives Series. There is one listed for Revolutionary War service plus one listed in the War of 1812. Apparently Straub was a very popular name in Penn. at this time. I found a private Andrew Straub listed in Penn Archives Series 6 Volume IX pg 892. I'm sure there are more references but I stopped after that one. Keep looking. I'm sure you will find it very informative.
