Elizabeth Abbott asked: >Can anyone please tell me how I can find the pension records for my gggg-grandfather, Joel Farnham, who fought in the War of 1812? According to the "History of Coos County, Town of Lancaster" (New Hampshire), he was a Private with the US Regiment Infantry in the Roster of Captain John W. Weeks. Ancestry.com said he enlisted March 9, 1813, was placed on the pension roll May 16, 1818 and his commencement of pension was Feb. 17, 1815. I am hoping the official pension records will show the name of his wife and children.< Elizabeth, Contact the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Washington, DC, or better yet, a faster approach is to visit their special web page at https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/start.swe?SWECmd=Start There, you can order the pension file and charge it to a credit card or pay by check, and if they don't find the record you request, there's no charge. Many thanks to Jeff, Virginia, Eileen, the two Bobs and Tod regarding my question for pension records! Hope I didn't forget anyone. Thanks again, Elizabeth

Someone was looking for the CD of War of 1812 Muster rolls. www.AncestorStuff.com CD: MILITARY RECORDS: WAR OF 1812 MUSTER ROLLS This collection will prove invaluable to anyone researching ancestors who braved this pivotal American conflict. Fully searchable details on 580,000 soldiers include: - name - company - rank at induction and discharge - roll statistics The CD also provides historical background, Frequently Asked Questions & other tools to help you find the information you need and broaden your appreciation of the historical context in which your ancestors lived. As the attack on Fort McHenry raged, American attorney Francis Scott Key watched anxiously from the deck of a British ship. While negotiating with the opposition, the conflict escalated, and he became sequestered across enemy lines. Key fixed his gaze on the flag flying above the military post as night fell, knowing that as long as the stars and stripes remained there, the United States would prevail. When the fighting concluded the next morning, the Americans had won the battle. Requesting a pen and paper, Key composed a tribute to the banner that had kept his hope of liberty alive and the soldiers who had fought so bravely that night to defend it. Today, that simple poem is the national anthem of the United States of America. If your heritage includes the valiant patriots of the War of 1812, this collection could be exactly what you've been searching for! I want to extend a huge thank you to all of you who answered my question about membership. I'm impressed by how many responses I received and I appreciate each one. Sarah, You may send to the National Archives for his Compiled Military Service Record. It may contain some of the information you are seeking. Also, if he lived long enough to draw a pension, you can send for his pension record. Virginia
I believe the person asking is female. The General Society is for men. May I suggest the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 is the more likely society? I have privately replied to the original poster with that contact info. --- John Johnston <john.johnston@taos.fnsb.lib.ak.us> wrote: > Membership info and other information is available > at the soc web site > > http://www.societyofthewarof1812.org/index.html
I'm curious to know if there is a cd of the rosters or other 1812 data / and to know if anyone happens to have that cd (if it exists). Thanks, Sarah

I'm a Vietnam Vet, attempting to join the Gen Soc daughters of the War of 1812. There isn't a chapter in my state (Oregon). My Ancestor is Andrew Conner b: 1760 NJ and his Gen Soc # is 1422. I'd like to know how I can get a copy of his military and immediate family information from the society--(since he has a # someone must have registered him at some point.) Also, does anyone know where I can email to get the membership app and who I should write to for membership at large? I've already traced and documented my line back to him and am rearing to go! lol Thank you for any assistance with this. Sarah
Does anyone know of participation in the War of 1812 of Nehemiah Ellis, b. 1752 Berks, Pa, married Sarah Thornbrough, or of any of his sons John, Jehu (b.1775, m Phebe Nordyke) and Robert, b. 1794, all b. in Berkeley Co. VA. They may have been Quakers orginally, but some Quakers did contribute Public Service in that war. Thanks, Camilla H. Camilla Harris harrismusica@earthlink.net Why Wait? Move to EarthLink.
Hello, It soundes like you need some kind of proof of birth or birth certificate. But the era you are researching was too new to have such and institution or building to keep such a record. I have had success finding a "record of birth" in a new Colony by looking in the local newspaper of that time period. They may have something like "Born on this day to Andrew and Mrs. Conner a daughter". That would definitely serve as proof of birth if the names and dates match I am sure. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Margaret King Waltham, MA
Fort Ann, NY is a small town just west of the bottom end of Lake George. They might have a historian and/or the Clerk might be able to help with records. Look up their address on Google and phone the Town Manager for suggestions. Ask if there is an Episcopal Church in the town and then call them to see where their early records are kept. I was able to find pension/land warrant information which included info on the veteran's wife from the Pennsylvania Archives for my Pennsylvania relative. I do not know if New York has military records, but I'd try the NY Archives in Albany. Again, Google will provide the address. You may wish to write to the National Archives. Also, try your local LDS FHC.
