Why am I getting e-mails from tons of people with questions like the one I asked? Stop!! Kathryn
My wife has Capt Charles Moore, who wed in 1800 in Philadelphia's Baptist church, and likely served in the Trenton-Hopewell-Ewing ,NJ area..There was no Mercer County then,so Burlington,or Hunterdon Co,NJ. I had James Blackman, who served from Port Republic,Old Gloucester Co,but now Atlantic Co,NJ .Port Republic,Galloway twnsp, was the width of the Mullica,or Little Egg Harbor River, from Burlington Co,NJ. Capt Charles Moore,Charles Hunt, and James Blackman migrated about 1815 to the East Fork of the Little Miami River, near Batavia,Clermont Co,Ohio, where both ran grist and saw mills 4 miles apart. During the Rev War,Port Republic,NJ had a lot of privateering and smuggling.
As a 16 and 17 year "old" volunteer, my ggg-grf George W. Fletcher (1796-1860) served three short periods with three different KY Militia units. His last service was with Capt John Louden's "Company of Spies" (meaning: scouts). I fondly muse that for this last service, his horse "was paid" 50% more than he was! Old George's pay records show that he was paid $8/mo for himself and $12.40/mo for his horse. Hello Everyone My name is Doyle Stroup. I have been doing family history work for about 25 years. My great-grandmother's father was a man named Enoch Kifer/Kiffer. He was born in 1794 in Westmoreland County, Penna. He lived primarily in Clarion and Forest Counties in Penna. He is buried in West Hickory Township in Forest County. He died in 1865. The epitaph on his tombstone reads "Soldier of the War of 1812". I can find no record of his service in the war. Does anyone have any ideas or leads that I can use to find his service record? Sincerely, Doyle Stroup dbstroup@gmail.com
There was a rank titled drummer. They were as young as age 13. Payroll records I have seen talk in terms of dollars (albeit $4.00 for a month or some such rate). Try www.regiments.org. I am researching the West-Riding Rebellion of 1820. The 4th Dragoon Guards participated in that. I believe, but am not certain that the 4th Dragoon Guards and the 4th Irish Dragoons are the same. I only have a couple of references to them: you will note that their title changes from report to report - Times, 05 April: detachments at Huddersfield on 31 March - ... 4th Dragoons under Capt SIBTHORPE Leeds Mercury, 08 April 1820: one troop of the 4th Dragoon Guards, under Capt. Sibthorp LM, 15 April: detachments at Grange Moor - a small number of the 4th Irish Dragoon Guards, under . Lt SHAW & [& other units] ... the whole commanded by Major De BATHE [not sure if the Major was part of the 4th or some other unit] Times, 18 April: three troops of 4th Dragoon Guards under Colonel SHERLOCK .
