There are Military payroll films and Pension applications, etc. available via the LDS at Salt Lake. Don't panic...These films are available to rent out and be sent to local Family History Centers - which centers, believe it or not, are located in most cities or towns (for sure Tacoma, Washington). You can find both the cities and towns that have these research rooms through the Yellow Pages, through 411-Information, or via www.FamilySearch.com for locations. These films rent for about $6.00 each which, for what research you can do minutes from home, is well worth the small investment. I am not a member of the LDS but am a once-a-week researcher at the local LDS Research room where they have computers which access Ancestry.com and more, have readers, microfiche machines, reference books and best of all an experienced volunteer. As mentioned, they also have access to thousand of films. Try it, you'll like it! A Solomon Snider who was a Corporal in Captain Tibbs Company Virginia Militia in the War of 1812 received some bounty land in Washington County AR. In 1854 he assigned the land to Samuel Lewis who is an ancestor of mine. This information is on the copy I have. Can someone look this Snider up and confirm his military service in the War of 1812? Greig Lewis
Is there anyone on the List who lives in and/or near the Archives who can get copies of a military record? If so, e-mail me with costs etc., and I'll send what I need copies of. Thank you. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)

Hi Mark, Thanks so much for your offer! According to the muster roll dated June 12, 1812, the officers were: Captain Casper Kelly 1 Lt. John Brubaker 2 Lt. John Crawford. Additionally, several years ago I received some information from NARA which stated "Piper's Riflemen" -- nothing else. As an aside, I found Daniel Hamilton in Allegheny Twp., Somerset Co., in the 1810 census and then on the tax rolls for the same from 1810 through 1814. I know he and his family were in Washington Co. PA by 1819 as his last child was born there. He is on the 1820 census in Washington Co. but then disappears --according to family information he and his wife were dead by 1822/23. I had always guessed that it was the War of 1812 and his service in it that caused him to move west. I'm wondering if there is any way to find out about bounty land that he may have been awarded but never claimed? Thanks so much for your help. After all these years of looking for Daniel but hitting dead ends everywhere--even just to see his name listed somewhere makes me do the happy dance! Eva "Mark S. Ann, Thank you very much for your kind offer to look up Daniel Hamilton for me, but there is no need. He survived the war but did not live long enough (nor did his widow) to apply for a pension. I've been searching for a sourc e that might list the type of service the Berlin Rifle Co. performed so that I would have something to add to his history--he has been my brick wall since I started family research---longer ago than I care to admit! I will try the CD you suggested--thanks for the information!
