    1. [WAROF1812] Daniel Hamilton
    2. Eva Dayle Zippay
    3. First, I want to again thank those of you on the list who helped me so much with my questions regarding Daniel Hamilton. Next, I want to float a theory, and I thank all of you for your patience. As I've stated, I have very little information about Daniel (and, of course, he was the impetus for my family research.) I'm not the kind of researcher who is content with names--I want to KNOW these ancestors and understand their stories. So-- Family history states that Daniel and his wife had a son, Leonard, who was "stolen by Indians" I've been told the date (around 1810 or so) was too late for Indian raids, but the information I have leads me to believe it was a kidnapping by a single Indian squaw who wanted a child for some reason--perhaps her own had died recently. From my own research I believe this abduction happened between 1810 and 1814, probably sometime shortly after the census enumeration of 1810. Now comes the War of 1812. Why did Daniel volunteer as a rifleman? Now knowing the area where he served, thanks to Mark, I think it is possible that he thought joining would somehow enable him to further his search for his child. Are there any thoughts out there on my theory? Again, I thank you all for your patience. Eva Eva Dayle Zippay Tallahassee, Florida evadayle@yahoo.com

    3. Hi, Pvt. John Henry served in Captain John Collumn's Company, Major David Nelson's 5th or Odd Battalion in the Brigade of Pennsylvania Troops commanded by Brig. Gen. Richard Crooks in the 2nd Army of the Northwest under the command of Major Gen. William H. Harrison. He was drafted or volunteered for a 6th month tour of duty from 2 October 1812 to 2 April 1813. They rendezvoused at Pittsburgh then marched across Ohio and ended up at the Maumee Rapids where they built Fort Meigs. Due to one wing of the army being wiped out by the British and Indians they remained at the Fort until discharged instead of proceeding on to Detriot and Canada. Capt. Collumn's Company was from Crawford County, but I don't find John Henry in any other rosters. There is a Sgt. James Henry and Pvt. Alexander Henry in the 133rd Regiment 1st Battlion 16th Division Pa Militia, from Crawford County, who served at Erie several times. You should send for his bounty land and possibly his pension records, they should give further information on his service. The militia did volunteer on several occassions to serve with Perry's fleet and a few served on board during the battle. We may be distantly related, but I have not made my Henry connection. Mark S. 2. Hi Dawn Have you got the research work done and documented on his child that you descend from? Genealogy is usually starting from yourself and working back to the earlier Ancestor. It not only helps to tell you where they are located but will make sure that you have the correct person (sometimes there were several in the family with the same name). A LDS Family History Center near you might be a good place to start. Pat

    3. Dawn, Have you searched for him on Ancestry.com and familysearch.org[LDS]? Have you checked the census for him? Do you have any other data on him, especially a date of death? Many local libraries have Ancestry.com available free for patrons. The LDS online site I mentioned above is free online. Ancestry's database for the War of 1812 turns up 73 John Henrys, but only one listed as seaman: War of 1812 Service Records Record about JOHN HENRY Name: JOHN HENRY Company: BATT'N SEA FENCIBLES (LEONARD'S), NEW YORK. Rank - Induction: O. SEAMAN Rank - Discharge: O. SEAMAN Roll Box: 97 Roll Exct: 602 Source: 'Index To War Of 1812 Pension Files Volume I: A-I' transcribed by Virgil D. White Henry, John, Navy IF-#740, sr as Ord Seaman on US Frigate "Congress" in 1811 in USN The above named book in available at many local libraries. You can use the information above to send to the NARA for the Combined Military Service File and for pension records. You can go to this site for the NARA, register and order records online. I find this is a much faster way to obtain records. https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/start.swe?SWECmd=Start Good luck with your research, Virginia

    3. Hi, William Zebley served as a private in Capt.John Fuller's Company attached to the 2nd Brigade 1st Division under Col. J. Thompson. He was called up under the order of the President of the US 4 July 1814. The roster is dated 25 October 1814. Reference Pa Archives Volume 7 page 45. He would have served somewhere near Philadelphia to Baltimore in response to the Britsih invasions. Thats all I could find on him, he should have bounty land records.
