    3. Suzanne.. Larry Wilson also referred me to "Weir/Wear Families From Here and There to the Whitehouse". I contacted one of the co-authors, JoAnne Wear Spore, purchased a copy and have found it to be a goldmine of info about the Weir/Wear/Ware, etc. family that came from VA. You can reach her at [email protected] An excerpt that might be helpful to you regarding the Botetourt/Rockbridge connection is as follows: "Rockbridge was not a county until 1778. From 1745, when Augusta Co. was formed, until 1770 when Botetourt Co. was cut out of Augusta, people had to travel to Staunton when official business had to be conducted..... After 1770 those living SW of North River went to Fincastle and those NE of the river continued to Staunton. Because of the distance and road condition the official mad a ne county. As of March 1, 1778 the new county of Rockbridge came ito existenc. Two-thirds was taken from Botetourt Co. and the rest from Augusta. The new county seat was to be called Lexington. The town was laid out and lots were sold at auiction. A fire destroyed the town in 1796 but was rebuilt." Larry may have provided you with all the info you need, but if there are other Weir connections you are looking for and he's out of pocket, I'll also be happy to check my copy to see if they are referenced... (Thanks again to you, Larry, for helping so many of us find our roots....)
