    2. Hi Alice, Thanks so much for sending me transcripts of the two documents relating to your ancestor. Sometimes it seems that the more you find out, the more mystery there is. I myself had never seen the text of one of those paroles, so it was very interesting to me.As you could see by the end of the first document, relating to parole, the words "until duly exchanged" appear. He was evidently paroled, probably in late '63, and was thus able to rejoin his outfit. He, like other courageous men, made it to the end of the war at Citronelle, AL. Some soldiers were physically there, others were not, but that's where their final parole papers were written up, and one might make the mistake of thinking that all parolees were actually in Citronelle.
