    1. Re: WARD and CLITZ
    2. PHWALLS
    3. Thanks Tom! This is getting more and more interesting all the time! This may indeed lead me to Captain James N. Ward's hometown...if someone doesn't get there first! I understand General George Armstrong Custer of "Custer's Last Stand" fame did write to an Augusta Ward Frary in this same area of New York. (See next paragraph.) I wonder if there is a connection between James N. Ward and Augusta Ward Frary. Will have to call the Rochester Public Library on this subject. Perhaps they have more information. <It is my hope that I can nail down the ARMSTRONG connection in Ireland this way. To my knowledge, no one has been able to do this. I believe it is possible that my Jane Armstrong and General George Armstrong Custer are from the same family in Ireland.> Per note from Carol ([email protected]): "The letters are in the archives of the Rochester Public Library and were purchased from a private collector. They wer written to Augusta Ward Frary who was born 31 May 1835 in Bugettstown, PA. A letter from the library asks if John Ward, Augusta's father, is also the brother of Maria Ward Kirkpatrick Custer."
