    2. I'm trying to find information on the parents of my ggrandfather Joseph Ware. He was born about 1879. He married Ellen Quarles on Nov. 30, 1895 in Catoosa Co, Ga. and he was probably born in or near Catoosa Co since Ellen lived in the same area. I know he had one brother named John and probably one brother named Jesse and another named Alf or Alfred. Can anyone help me with this Ware family line? Mike Troxell

    1. [WARE] Peter Ware of VA
    2. Linda and Ben Moore
    3. One of my Ware lines goes back to the Peter Ware who married Mary Hickes. (I descend from Peter, Jr.,'s daughter Frances Ware, who married Matthew Branch.) Someone on the Ware genforum posted that they had information all the way back to England, but my e-mail was not answered when I tried to write that person. Does anyone know how I can find out some of this information? Thanks, Linda benlinda@flash.net

    3. Hi, My George Ware/Waer/Wair etc. (so many spellings) shows up in Massachusetts/Rhode Island area early 1700's, but he also does not tie in with any of the Ware families here in Ma. A note in his sons bible said "see early history of Gloucester" but it could be one of many /Gloucester's, after a diligent search it is not Ma. there are no Ware's in that history. I checked Rhode Island and no Ware's in their history. Now I guess N.J. and Va. I am not sure what other states have early histories for Gloucester. George Ware d. in 1805 his wife d. in 1797 in Hopkinton,Middlesex,Ma. His sons Archibald(my direct line) and George also b. Middlesex Co. Ma. I have documented back to George and would love to go back to England or Ireland(do not know which) I will keep an eye out for your Richard, there are just so many WARE families all over. Good luck! Does anyone have a missing Richard? I know he didn't just fall out of a tree. He may have been married to a Nancy at that time. Jean

    2. That's true. It wasn't uncommon after the slaves were freed to take the last name of their former owner or someone famous. Hence the large number of Washington's, Jackson's, Johnson's, etc. This did not necessary mean they were fathered by by the owner or overseer although it did happen. --- Original Message --- From: "Jerry Brooks" <jbrooks5@hcnews.com> To: WARE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [WARE] Re: ware >You want to be cautious about the last name inference. 3. You want to be cautious about the last name inference. Many of these births simply carried the owner's name; I found this out when I was doing research in Kentucky where the parent (father) was listed as a female who was also the owner. jb -----Original Message----- From: Helen Ware [mailto:helenware@attbi.com] Sent: Sunday, August 04, 2002 10:45 PM To: WARE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WARE] Re: ware I think from your posting your Ware family is of African American descent am I correct?
