    1. Re: WARE/CIVIL WAR
    2. Hi Alice, Thanks so much for sending me transcripts of the two documents relating to your ancestor. Sometimes it seems that the more you find out, the more mystery there is. I myself had never seen the text of one of those paroles, so it was very interesting to me.As you could see by the end of the first document, relating to parole, the words "until duly exchanged" appear. He was evidently paroled, probably in late '63, and was thus able to rejoin his outfit. He, like other courageous men, made it to the end of the war at Citronelle, AL. Some soldiers were physically there, others were not, but that's where their final parole papers were written up, and one might make the mistake of thinking that all parolees were actually in Citronelle. Thanks again for sending me the information on your Ware. Regards, Phil Ware Niddrie

    3. Phil Second item: 2066295 WAR DEPARTMENT. The Adjutant General's Office Washington, August 13, 1913 Respectfully returned to the Commissioner of Pensions, State of Missouri Jefferson City. The Confederate records show that E. Monroe Ware - age not stated- corporal and sergeant, Company H, 3rd Missouri Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted January 1, 1862, at Springfield. On the muster roll of the copany for the months of July and August, 1864 (last roll on file), he was reported present. John W. Bagby and Wm. Merrick were captains of the company mentioned, and B. A. Rives was the colonel of the regiment. There are no rolls on file in this office of the Missouri State Guard, G.S.A., and no record has been found of the capture or parole of a man named Elliott Monroe Ware as a member of such an organization. There are no rolls on file in this office of any company of the 3rd and 5th Consolidated Regiment Missouri Inf., C.S.A. The Union records of prisoners of war show that E. M. Ware, sergeant, Company H, 3rd Missouri Inf., C.S.A., was captured July 4, 1863, and was paroled at Vicksburg, Mississippi, July 8, 1863. His age at that time was recorded as 19 years. Said records further show that he was surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama, May 4, 1865, and paroled at Meridian, Mississippi, May 12, 1865. No record of any physical disability in the case of this soldier has been found of record (signed) H. O(?)S. Hentard (?) Adjutant General.

    3. Hello Phil I have E.M. Ware's service record as well as a copy of the "non fighting" form he signed. Will send both to the list but in two different entries. Together they might be a bit long. The form signed is as follows: VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI, JULY 8th A. C. 1863 To all Whom it may Concern, Know Ye That: I, E.M. Ware, a Serg't of Co. H 3rd Reg't Missouri Inft. Vols. C.S. A., being a Prisoner of War, in the hands of the United States Forces, in virtue of the capitulation of the City of Vicksburg and its garrison, by Lieut. Gen. John C. Pemberton, C.S.A., Commanding, on the 4th day of July, 1863, do in pursuance of the terms of said capitulation, give this my solemn parole under oath________ That I will not take up arms again against the United States, nor serve in any military, police or constabulary force in any Fort, Garrison or field work, held by the Confederate States of America, against the United States of America, nor as guard of prisons, depots or stores, nor discharge any duties usually performed by Officers or soldiers against the United States of America, until duly exchanged by the proper authorities. (signed) E. M. Ware _________________________________ Sworn to and subscribed before me at Vicksburg, Miss., this 8 day of July, 1863 (signed) S. W. 3. Diane What counties did you find your John Ware and his family? Some of the children of Nathan Ware moved north and west to Carroll county and around Chillicothe, MO (Livingston county) A cousin of our Lourinda Ware, Elliott Ware fought in the Civil War for the south. He was captured around Vicksburg, and offered the choice of signing a pledge to lay down his arms and go home. He did sign, they let him go and he went back to his old outfit to fight some more. Sneaky little rascal. Bet he had an honest face. Alice

    3. Well the good news is that my family was from Limestone Co, Texas from about this same time AND there were Wares and Pruitts in my family, but I am afraid they are not the same Wares and Pruitts that you are talking about. I am descent from a Hardy Ware (1799-1850) and a Sara (last name unknown) (1794- mid 1800s). Hardy & Sara Ware had two kids named Hardy K. (1825-unknown) and Katherine "Kate" Ware (1826-1865). Kate married William Walter Richardson (1818-1910). They had several kids of which one was my Isaac Richardson is my great-grand father. On of their children was named James Hardy Richardson. The Pruitt side comes from Hardy Ware's first wife. Her name was Drucilla House (late 1700s to 1844). Hardy & Drucilla had Nancy Ware (1800- unknown). Nancy married Osborne Pruett (1779 - late 1800s). Nancy & Osborne Puett had four kids: Melinda Pruett (1830 - unknown), Margaret Pruett (1838- unknown), Ellen Pruett (1840 - unknown), Daniel Pruett (1842 - unknown). (I am sure you noticed the difference in the spelling - I didn't notice that until I was writing this email).
