    1. WEIR Cemetery > Clark County, Indiana
    2. Lois Mauk
    3. Just thought I'd drop a note to let you know that WEIR Cemetery in Clark County, Indiana is currently receiving some long-needed care and attention. Earlier this summer, the weeds were nearly chest high and even the 7-foot tall concrete tree stump marker for Richard Meloy was hard to spot. The Union Township Trustee, Mr. Bill Stewart, has recently coordinated a week-long effort by workers from the County Department of Corrections and the Sheriff's Office to weedwhip, cut and clear the site. We have already found a couple of previously unindexed stones. A lot remains to be done, but it's a TERRIFIC start. This is a bi-racial (possibly TRI-racial) cemetery. The surnames found here include BIBBS, COTTER, DAWSON, EBEN, HEAD, MELOY, RAILL, SCHUMAKER, WEIR and WILSON. If you'd like to drop a note of encouragement to the Trustee, you can reach him at: William E. I've been busy trying to get moved up here to MD. The family will be joining me this week but Friday I have to leave for Moscow for two weeks. We don't actually move into our new house until the end of August. Have I asked you if you have been in contact with Vera Mundt? She is related to our WAREs. She is from Simpson Co. but she now lives in Utah. What are you doing in Moscow? How's your Russian, anyway? No, you hadn't previously asked me about Vera Mundt...have you contacted her via the Net relating to the Wares? Would be interested in contacting her, so if you have her e-mail... I don't believe you updated me on your branch of the Wares, and would greatly appreciate it. If you have a file, such as an FTW file, you could attach it. Let me know. I still haven't gotten any further than our John Ware Sr. in Caswell, NC. I believe I've mentioned him to you, have I not? Let me know if I haven't. Gotta run...talk to you later, Phil

    3. Does anyone have any info about my ancestor, Joseph Ware (born in England cir 1800). He was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Ware. He married Mary French (nee Atwater) and lived in Wayne Co. (formerly part of Ontario Co.) NY. I do not know if he came to America as an adult or with his parents, or if he came straight to Wayne Co or lived elsewhere before settling there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Diane Friis

    3. Philip, No, I don't know where in NC. Census records just list NC for William Weare's birth place. Oral family history says they were from NC on their way to Illinois and decided to stay in Indiana. William and Mary Weare had 9 children, some of the children did migrate west. Some returned to Indiana, but others stayed out west. What is your lineage? I do have all the children's names and some of their children, if you are interested. Martha Ann --- "Dead did I say? 3. In August, use of RootsWeb grew on average about 15%. While we're more than pleased by our growth, it *is* forcing us to upgrade our servers and increase our bandwidth, which in turn severely strains our limited financial resources. If you'd like to help RootsWeb grow, please consider becoming a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor. Information on how to do that follows the statistics. Here are the detailed statistics on our August operations: o 3,078 independently-authored Websites are hosted by RootsWeb. o 57,294,189 total Web hits: - 15,545,371 were HTML pages. - 8,116,870 were cgi-bin database searches and such. - 33,435,089 were graphics (gifs, jpegs, etc). o 1,161,830 FTP file downloads from the USGenWeb Archives and the ROOTS-L Library. o 4,186 independently-operated mailing lists are hosted by RootsWeb. o We shipped 103,079,174 pieces of e-mail to our mailing lists. o 60,000 alt.g and s.g.* Usenet News articles to hosts on three continents. o We shipped approximately 926,726,400,000 bytes in total (next month we may break 1 Terabyte!). RootsWeb remains supported primarily by our users -- your contributions keep us alive. Folks who would like to become a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor (the cost is very modest) are invited to visit: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html *** You can become a Member easily using your credit card and our new secure server. *** Support from the Internet genealogical community is *crucial* to RootsWeb's operation. The continuing growth in use has led to both our main Web server and our main list server being pretty much maxed out. Contributions that we can employ to upgrade our servers are essential for us to be able to continue bringing more genealogical Websites and mailing lists online. Also, we would like to publicly thank Palladium Interactive, publishers of the superb Ultimate Family Tree software, for their generous support of RootsWeb: http://www.palladium.net/ Thanks to everyone who participates in RootsWeb -- clearly folks are continuing to exchanging a great deal of information! -B -- Dr. Brian Leverich Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ P.O.
