I have not researched Hugh's estate but it is listed as Highland and Clinton Co., which leads me to believe he was a resident of Clinton Co. There are no early Clinton Co. groups to my knowledge that early. There was a James Wear in Highland Co. sometime after the birth of John C., who was born 1815 in KY. I would like to know the source of the link of Sarah to Hugh. What is the source of your Indiana Co, PA birth? I will be happy to assist if I can. Take care. 2. Hi guys, Got this in my email. My Wares are not contemporary. Maybe someone out there is familiar with this person. Linda My name is Henriette Cain & I am helping my cousin find a friend with the surname Ware. The lady's name she is looking for is: Charlene Ware--she went to GA Tech at least in 1960 & would be about 56 yrs old now. Is this lady perhaps a relative of yours? I see where your records for GA go thru 1918, but I thought I'd try. My email add: HCain2945 Thanks, Henriette Cain

    3. I am searching for confirmation that John WATSON, born roughly 1791 in Ireland was married to Sarah WARE (WEIR, WEAR). The 1850 census shows John WATSON from Ireland and his wife Sarah from PA had my ggrandfather Andrew James WATSON, born 30 May 1842. We believe that Sarah WARE was born roughly 1800 in Indiana Co, PA and that she married John WATSON 24 Mar 1831 in OH. We also believe that Sarah's parents were Hugh WEIR, born roughly Jan 1775 in Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland, married roughly 1793 to Rebecca HANSON, who died 17 Nov 1817 in Hillsboro, Highland Co, OH.

    3. Suzanne.. Larry Wilson also referred me to "Weir/Wear Families From Here and There to the Whitehouse". I contacted one of the co-authors, JoAnne Wear Spore, purchased a copy and have found it to be a goldmine of info about the Weir/Wear/Ware, etc. family that came from VA. You can reach her at [email protected] An excerpt that might be helpful to you regarding the Botetourt/Rockbridge connection is as follows: "Rockbridge was not a county until 1778. From 1745, when Augusta Co. was formed, until 1770 when Botetourt Co. was cut out of Augusta, people had to travel to Staunton when official business had to be conducted..... After 1770 those living SW of North River went to Fincastle and those NE of the river continued to Staunton. Because of the distance and road condition the official mad a ne county. As of March 1, 1778 the new county of Rockbridge came ito existenc. Two-thirds was taken from Botetourt Co. and the rest from Augusta. The new county seat was to be called Lexington. The town was laid out and lots were sold at auiction. A fire destroyed the town in 1796 but was rebuilt." Larry may have provided you with all the info you need, but if there are other Weir connections you are looking for and he's out of pocket, I'll also be happy to check my copy to see if they are referenced... 1. Quoting Original Messages
    2. While quoting the orignial message reminds members on the mail list what you are answering, at the same time it is causing long messages that are needless, especially when mime is used. There are individuals on these mail lists that are charged for time while accessing their mail. There is an option on all popular broswers under the options menu that you can click on that when you reply to a message where the original message is not automatically sent back. When I want to quote a message I cut and paste only the parts in question. I also realize that there are many individuals using computers and the internet for the first time and this is just a helpful reminder that such an option exists. This will also save space on the servers at Rootsweb where all of our messages are archived. I enjoy all of list I am currently subscribed to and enjoy all of the decisions pretaining to genealogy. Please excuse this breech of non-genealogy comments. Sheryl Ware Tuck

    3. I am currently working on the genealogy of the WARE family in Columbia County, Arkansas. This line begins with Miles Fuller Ware who was born in 1805. 3. Looking for information on the origins of JOSIAH WARE (b.c.1787) m. 1806 Hampden, Maine, RUTH PETTIS, d. 1837 Hampden. The "History of Penobscot County" lists Josiah's father as being John Henderson who settled on the Kennebec where Josiah was born in 1787. This corresponds with John Henderson of Norridgewock who settled there in 1787, however, the "History of Norridgewock" states that this John never married. Any information would be appreciated. I am interested in the WEIR name because my husbands gggrandmother was Jane Weir who married Andrew Crawford. They were married in Botetourt Co., VA and lived in McMinn Co. TN. My thinking is that it isn't inconceivable that they may have been related in some way to the Weir families who lived in McMinn and therefore I have been collecting information on the Weir name in McMinn. Some of the early WIERS marriages from Botetourt Co. are: James Wiers to Elizabeth Sharkey Sep 20 1810 William Wiers to Betsy Caldwell Dec 22 1804 Jane Wiers [Mrs.] to James Caldwell Jun 6 1818 Jane Wiers to Andrew Crawford Nov 18 1814*** Mary Wiers to John Crawford Oct 6 1812*** Joseph Wier to Hannah McCrery [Mrs.] Apr 5 1806 Do you know of any connection between the Wier/Weir families of Botetourt and Rockbridge? At any rate, thank you for the information you sent to me. It gives me a little to go on. Warm Regards, Suzanne Crawford

I would say it is highly probable that Randolph County is involved because a Solomon marriage record is in Randolph Co. WV. Francis had children Benjamin, Daniel, Solomon and John. The other three were married in Randolph County. I have descendants of John and probably Daniel, but only have minimal data on the other two sons. This is all in very early stages of research. 2. Suzanne. Forgot to mention. I am a descendant of Weir and Wear. A Margaret Weir was my 4g-grandmother - she married James W. Culton. It is believed that Margaret's father was named Hugh Weir. The Cultons lived in McMinn Co for a time, moved to Bradley Co., and are both buried in Mt.Cumberland Cemetery near Athens. I am descended from their eldest daughter, Nancy Culton Wilson. 2. Suzanne: The following passage is from the book Weir/Wear Families FROM HERE & THERE TO THE WHITE HOUSE, page170. Margaret, daughter of Mary Weir Walker born about 1770, married 16 October 1791 to Robert Anderson in Rockbridge County, VA. Margaret was dead by 1813 when her father made his will. After her death, Robert married a second time and their children were Martha, Elizabeth, Mary and perhaps others. The Elizabeth by Robert's second marriage married Abraham B. Weir, a nephew of Margaret Weir Walker. The children of Margaret and Robert were two boys - Isaac born abour 1792 and William, as mentioned in their grandfather's will. Margaret's son Isaac Anderson is NOT the minister of Blount County, TN. The will of William Walker supplied part of the data for this family. Margaret Roberson furnished data on the Anderson family. In 1971, she found in the court house in Athens, TN, a power-of-attorney dated 21 September, 1833 to Wm. W. Anderson that helped greatly. Note: The entire will is reproduced in the book, along with another blurb on Mary Weir. If this is the family you are seeking, please supply your mailing address, and I will send a copy to you. A portion of the will is signed by two justices of the peace. One is Alexander Culton of Rockbridge County, VA. Some Cultons later went to McMinn County, and they are my 4g-grandparents, as are the WILSON family that also went there. Larry Wilson
