Wish I could help, but really don't have much on the Ward's that are not in my direct line. The info on Thomas was taken from the 1850 McDowel Co NC cenus. Do you have your Thomas on a census anywhere? I guess you could look on the 1860 McDowell Co NC census for Johnson Ledbetter Ward and see if he is listed with a Thomas.
