You are absolutely correct, we seem to have slipped off topic a bit. While this discussion may seem interesting in the abstract to some people also interested in genealogy, it is more appropriate for a more generally inclined group. Unfortunately, it's been popping up in way too many of the surname mailing lists and being saved in all their archives.
