These are some things that I was told today. They make very much sense to me, but please let me know what you have heard and if this information is sound. I have learned that the Cherokee people had many light skinned, blue eyed and light haired in their number. Their hair was generally redder than most Native Americans. If you have been told that your Wards are Black Irish, or Black Dutch, that is a euphemism for Cherokee, as the blood had to be hidden up until about 1960 or the threat of having your land taken and being sent to a reservation was very real. When I was a child I would have people as if I was "Indian" so I asked my dad. He told me that was always a possibility but That we were Black Irish and Scots. When I asked what Black Irish were he told me that those were the native people of Ireland, like the Indians were the native people of America. This was 35 years or so ago, and I have always told my child and anyone who asked I was Black Irish and Scots. Have I been saying Cherokee and Scots all these years and not known it? Anyone have an answer ?????
