This is my first posting to any genealogy list and I'm not sure about the protocol of posing questions - especially since I'm fairly new at trying to ferret out information. Anyway here goes: So far I have for JOHN C. WARD: father (?) ISRAEL WARD, age 39, 1850 U.S. Census, Sussex/Byram, NJ mother(?) ELISABETH WARD, age 39, (as above). Their 3rd child of 6 is JOHN C. WARD, age 12 (as above), which makes him the right age to have been born in 1838. This goes with the age given in his discharge papers from the Civil War. (He served twice: Sept. 1862 - July 1863, Company K, 27th NJ Infantry, and Sept 1864 - June 1865, serving as "artificer" in K Company of the 1st New York Engineers. This from discharge papers in our possession.) These same papers state that he was born in Greenville NJ. Am not sure where that was. Our old Ward family bible says he was born in 1836. JOHN married URSULA FISK, (b. Feb. 22, 1836, also URSULY, ARSULA, URSYLLA), on Jan. 1859 in Sussex County, NJ (Ward family bible). Family legend has it that she was an American Indian. I believe her father's name was Gileon Fisk, b. 2/11/1800. (Info "from Shumans family bible"). They lived in Stanhope NJ where JOHN lived and worked on the Morris Canal (photos). JOHN and URSULA had 7 children, (from Ward family bible): 1. AMBROSE E. WARD (died at 5 mo.) 2. ADALINE C. WARD, b. APRIL 6, 1861. She married BENJAMIN COLE. They had a farm in New Village, NJ and then lived in Stewartsville, Warren County NJ. They had at least 2 children: ETHEL COLE FRED COLE I have also seen the name FRANCIS COLE, daughter of WILBERT on a photo. 3. WATSON M. WARD, b. April 6 , 1864 , (probably married ELIZA). Do not know of any offspring. 4. LAVINA WARD (died at 1 mo.) 5. WALTER J. WARD (died at 10 yrs.) 6. ELLA E. WARD, b. Apr. 22, 1872. I figure she was the Aunt NELL photographed with the family and with her husband JOHN RUNION. They lived in Tranquility NJ and in Stewartsville NJ. In 1917 JOHN RUNION lived in Andover NJ. (Letter). Their children were: JACK RUNION LULU RUNION 7. FREDRICK IRA WARD, b. Jan. 26, 1875 in Stanhope NJ, d. 1942, Trenton NJ. He married MARY ELLEN GLOVER, b. Oct. 1, 1874, New Durham, St. Giles, County of Durham, sub-district Saint Nicholas, England. FRED worked as a machinist at American Steel and Wire, Trenton NJ for many years. FRED and MARY ELLEN had two children: 1. GLADYS WARD, who married HARRY SMITH. They lived in Trenton NJ, no offspring. 2. CHARLES WILLIAM WARD, (my father), b. Jan. 24, 1900, Trenton NJ, d. Dec. 7, 1962, Philadelphia PA. He lived in Carversville PA for the last 30 years of his life, painting Pennsylvania Impressionist landscapes, 4 WPA U.S. Post Office murals, and also did post-impressionist work - many figurative and of Mexican influence. He married musician ANNA ELIZABETH KARLBERG July 4, 1942. They had two children: 1. KRISTINA MARIA WARD TURECHEK (yours truly, with two sons, WILLIAM and CARL) 2. MARY ELLEN GLADYS WARD (an artist, no children) I would dearly love to know if there are any other living Ward relatives out there, and also would like to know if the Morris County NJ Revolutionary War soldier ISRAEL WARD I have read about is related to our JOHN C. WARD of Stanhope NJ. Thanks for any help anyone here can give us. Sincerely, Kristina Ward Turechek
