Dear Cousins, Our local special collections recently obtained a series of Court Order Books for Lunenburg County. Among the many interesting tidbits about the Richard Ward family in this book are the following two, which I think are particularly peritnant. I found these data in "Lunenburg County, Virginia, Court Order Book No 10, 1764-1765" This was published by TLC Genealogy of Miami Beach Florida. p. 142 [October Court 1764] Benjamin Ward is appointed guardian to Richard Ward, Orphan of Richard Ward, dec[ease]d, whereupon, s[ai]d Benjamin, together with sufficient Security entered into bond. p. 162 [November Court, 1764] For reasons appearing to the Court, Benjamin Ward is removed from his guardianship of Richard Ward, Orphan of Richard Ward, decd. And Perrin Aulday is appointed guardian in his room, he giving Security, whereupon he, together with sufficient Security ack. bond. The various other entries have to do with the administration of Richard Ward's estate by Allday. It would be interesting to see the original court records and find out what the "reasons appearing to the court" for Benjamin's removal from guardianship were. Does anyone know if they are available? All that seems to be available from the LDS is the court orders. I believe these records pretty firmly establish that the name of the child of Richard Ward and Mary Johns Ward was Richard and that Benjamin Ward was in Lunenburg for at least a couple years after his father's death.
