Patrick Ward was born about 1815 in Ireland. He married Johanna O'Connell, born about 1818, in Ireland. She married first to Michael Culbert and they'd had Mary, born in 1837, and Ellen, born 1840, both in Lancaster Co., PA. Patrick and Johanna are together by 1845 when their first child, Thomas, was born in Schuylkill Co., PA. John was born in 1847, Margaret in 1849, Peter William in 1851, Mathew P. in 1853, and Alice 1856, all in Schuylkill. Family in LaSalle, IL by 1860 census. Patrick dead by 1865 LaSalle State census when Johanna is head of household. She and children are listed on 1870 Bloomington, McLean, IL census. Alice and John died young. Mary Culbert Ward married Thomas McGrath abt. 1861. Ellen Culbert Ward never married. Margaret Ward married Thomas Hughes in 1873. He died in 1876 and Margaret disappeared. Mathew Ward married Ann M. Hammond in 1880. Peter Ward married Ella VanBuskirk about 1879. Thomas Ward disappeared after 1870 census. Johanna O'Connell Ward disappeared after the 1876 Bloomington City Directory.
