    3. Maj. John Ward 1773-1850 married Nancy Bowen. She was born in 1780 and died in 1833 in Arkansas. On October 22, 1796 David Ward conveyed to John a 162 acre parcel of land from his land grant. John received an additional 41 acres adjoining their farm in 1801. He was the Tazwell County Clerk from1801-1805. Also in 1801 he was appointed Major in the 2nd Battalion of the 112th Regiment, but he resigned his commission in 1803. He was described as a farmer and a teacher. He represented Tazwell County in the House of Delegates in the sessions from 1812 to 1815 and again in 1825-1826. Hew was in charge of the 1800 Federal Census for Tazwell County and appointed two of his sons-in-law William Barns and Robert Gillespie as census takers. Johns brother, David Ward Jr. had left the state many years earlier and had settled in Arkansas. He was undoubtedly instrumental in John's move to the same state. By 1834 John, Nancy and most of their children had moved to Arkansas. Nancy died there. In 1850 John was still in the county living with his son Augustus but no later record has been found. Augustus Ward born in 1815 died in 1872 was one of the early leaders in Clarkesville Arkansas. He helped plot the town, organize the Masonic Lodge, the Presbyterian Church and the Sunday Schools. He also spent 14 years as the County Clerk. He was very much the humanitarian, taking orphaned and afflicted children into his home. He and JW Woodward, a deaf mute, were responsible for the organization of the first deaf mute Institute in teh state. Insufficient funds necessitated it relocation in later years at Arkadelphia and later still in Little Rock Arkansas. Blind Bob Ward, his brother David's son, lived with him after the death of Bobs parents. Augustas and Bob organized a Blind School initially located at Clarksville. Alexander Washington Ward born in 1819 in Tazwell VA died in 1899 in Ozark County MO. Sometime between 1852 and 1855 Alexander and his wife Jane moved to Lawrence County MO. However, when the war between the states began, Alexander found that he sympathized with and believed in the principles of the Union. He found that while arguing the issues to the point of estrangement from his own father, he did not relish firing real live bullets into an army of ex neighbors, friends and relatives. He wanted neutrality but no one could be neutral in Missouri. As soon as possible Alexander and his family moved back to Inidana and on May 27th 1863 he purchased land near Lyons, in Green County. When peace was restored they returned to Missouri where Jane died. In the fall Alexander married Catherine Muse a widow with five children. Evidently the marriage was not generally accepted by his children as his three oldest children left home to live with a recently married brother. The marriage didnt work out and by 1880 he had separated, he eventually died at the house of his son George Ward. Alexanders son Charles Ward born in 1845 in Indiana died in 1906 in Whitman County WA. Married Tennessee Caroline Brelan. After their marriage, Charles and Tennessee lived on a farm in GreeneCounty MO where their first child was born. Charles was an expert fiddle player and was much in demand at dances. He was also a competitor in track events and was once broadjump champion of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. He as well as many others of teh Ward relatives suffered from teh wander lust. ********************************** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly........

    3. David Wards Will I David Ward of Tazwell County and State of Virginia being in perfect health of both body and mind but calling to mind my advanced age, and the uncertainity of life in every person thereof, I do hereby make and ordain this my last will and testament in the manner and form following: I give to my wife Eleanor Ward one third part of the plantation whereon I now live. Containing about 400 acres, one third of the improvements, on said land, together with dwelling house and the other buildings and said improvements I wish to remain in the posession of my wife during the term of her natural life to be enjoyed by her without interruption or molestation and at my wifes decease my will is that the aforesaid 400 acres of land with the appurtenances to be considered as equally the property of Isaac Ward, Hiram Ward, and Addison Ward to be by them enjoyed as co-heirs to them their heirs or assign forever. I give unto my son Rees Ward a tract of land ajoining the aforesaid tract of 400 acres, which by estimation contains about 100 acres, and has been usually called Isaac Moores Ridge this tract to be divided from the 400 acre tract by a Creek above the ford next to John Burks and to run somewhere near a northwest course straight line till it intersects the line of George Grubb, and along Grubbs line to the line of William Ward and along the several course of the same rount to the beginning to be held by the said Rees Ward as his legal property to him, his heirs, or assigns forever. I also give my wife Elanor Ward on third part of my personal Estate after my just debts are paid and is to be considered as her absolute property and to be disposed by her at her decease by will or in whateber she may think proper. And as tot he balance of my personal Estate should anything remain after my debts are paid, I wish an equal divide to be made among my four daughters viz - Jane Ward, Nancy Ward, Phebe Ward and Matilda Ward. And whereas some of my daughters may have acquired some small personal property by their own industry since they came to full age, if that has been the case, I do not wish to consider that as any part of my personal estate, but only such as been obtained by me before my daughters came to mature age. My will also is that as two of my sons are so far under age that they have not been educated as I could, my desire is, that my wife, my son Isaac and all my daughters should contribute according to their abilities to have my two youngest sons taught Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic so as to enable them to do common business. And lastly I hereby constitute and appoint my wife Eleanor Ward my whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament and shouldit not be absolutely necessary for the payment of debts I should recommend doing the business without sale or anything more than returning an inventory to court but if the payment of debts make it necessary the usual mode must be resorted to and I do hereby utterly revoke every former wil and testament. In witness thereof I have herunto put my hand and affixed my seal this twelfth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one. 3. Hi Linda .. I don't know which genealogy software you use but I presume they are all the same with some features. I use TMG and there is an "audit" feature that checks for mistakes. http://www.whollygenes.com/ e.g. Children born before the mother was 14 or after the mother was 50. same as above for the father children born after mother or father's death death after burial etc. etc. You can see more features here: http://www.whollygenes.com/tmg.htm#features I'm not connected with the company .. just a happy user. We all make mistakes .. I have been known to marry a grand-child to Grand-ma :-)) and my biggest mistake, when I started off 3 1/2 years ago, was not recording the source ! LOL Jane PS My particular "hate" is entering the unknown wife as "Mrs John WARD" .. I prefer to write "unknown". ----- Original Message ----- From: "Spiritssong" <lwhit@alltel.net> To: <WARD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 1:59 PM Subject: Re: my Wards > Thank You Rachel > The Ward list was one of my first efforts three years ago when I got into > genealogy and I wish I had taken the time to check the dates before posting > here. 2. Linda- Don't you dare unsubscribe! You would be amazed at the amount of wrong info I have found on some of these sites, especially LDS. We appreciate you and your efforts. We have all been new at something at least once in our lives and I hope to be new at a lot more things before I go. Favorite bumper sticker----"The next time you think you're perfect, try walking on water"-----words more people should live by. Hooray for Linda for her kind and generous offer----and if you ask for Linda's time and effort, remember to say "please" and "thank you"----words not seen on many of those requests. Happy and safe holidays to all! Ada

    3. Alvin my great grandfather was Ezra B. Ward, b.1826 in N.C. he married Margaret Young (1839-1883) They had eight children: Milton L., Henry Madison, Thomas. Mary Caroline, Martha, John R., Pleasant, and Julia. Julia was the youngest being born 12/12/1873. At this point I do not have an L.O.Ward in my family tree. I have a feeling that L.O.W. will be connected as I was told that there was only one Ward family ever to live there. This part is only hear say and could be incorrect. The names I have, have all been proven, with one exception: Martha Ward. The dates are correct but the name has at least two separate names on different, supposedly official documents. If this fits in the data you have, please let me know. Do you know the town in which your L.O.W. lived? Alvin Ward wrote: > > Sid I have an Uncle who lived in Ellis Co for a long time. He was L. I was not chastising anyone, I was pointing out things I saw to help the person by bringing them to her attention. Another lesson we could all learn from this is unless someone states they are angry, chastising, belittling, etc., maybe we should take the words verbatim and forget to put our own feelings into them because they might not be feeling the same way we do.
