Once years ago I ran across a little book on the Seth Ward family of VA in the Library at William and Mary Univ in Williamsburg. As I recall this said that the Seth Ward first in VA was one of several orphaned children who were reared by their uncle , the Bishop of Salisbury. I think this was the same Bishop who is discussed in the historical novel, Salem. Hope this helps. Hullo listers. I am new to the list. Fresh for the New Year! I am the gt grandson of a Henry Ward, Corporal (Bombadier!) 1/6 Brigade Royal Artillery, Aden who married Catherine Jcakson nee Byrne a widow in Aden in 1874. Henry's father was given as William Ward, occupation not mentioned. Catherine's father was given as William Byrne, occupation not mentioned. They had at least two children, one of which was my grandmother Catherine also who as a widow McKenna married my grandfather Daniel Callaghan and another may have been Lilly. Family tradition has it that both families were from Ireland. I have traced a William Ward, Gunner in 1 Company 1 Battalion EIC Artillery from Tipperay, Co. Tipperary, who went out to India on the Thos. Coutts in 1830 and died in Bagdad in 1840. Could anybody please tell me whether he may have been my William Ward?. Mary, Can you give me more info on your John Ward. I have a John A. Ward (1 month old) in the 1850 Wayne County, MO. census with Andrew and Nancy (White) Ward. In the 1860 census, the parents have died and the children are living with relatives, but I do not find a John A. Ward, who would have been 9 or 10 at that time. This John A. Ward would be a brother to my Great-Grandfather William Raney Ward. If John A. Ward lived to adulthood, he would have been 58 in 1908 and could have been working in the mines at Bonne Terre.
