    3. I have sort of caught a snag when it comes to my WARD's. My grandmother was MAUDE ALBERTY who married EDWARD WARD in Honesdale, pa. Edward was from Cherry Ridge, PA which is not far from Honesdale, PA. As of 1949 when MAE WARD (VAN VORST) died in Carbondale, Pa. I have her obit.........It states she was survived by her mother MAUDE ALBERTY and 4 brothers: RUSSELL, KENNETH living in Honesdale, pa. NELSON living in Bloomfield, NJ IRVIN living in Carley Brook, NJ Mae was also known by the name Mary and her name may also be listed as May. She was born 9-20-1902 and died in 11-9-1949. My father recalls visiting at Maude and Edward's farm that they had, He vaguely remembers his uncles... If anyone can help I cannot express how much it would be appreciated...Thanks in advance..These lists have been a blessing... brenda green Oneida, NY

    1. a success story
    2. Bob Ward
    3. Hi all, I always like reading about people's genealogical success stories, so on those rare occasions when one happens to me, I like to share them - I think it gives a good burst of energy to those who are feeling stymied at a brick wall. Last summer, while on a trip around the country to visit various places that my family had lived, I ordered some probate records from Cook County, IL, including ones for Felix Ward SCUDDER, a descendant of my GGrandfather Oscar Hayden WARD through his daughter Belle Peabody WARD's first marriage to William Byrd SCUDDER. In those papers was a deposition from John Hayden Wilson, my Dad's first cousin, and a son of Belle WARD's by her third marriage to Edwin WILSON. Among other things, it told of John WILSON's kids: Juliette Thorne WILSON and William Henry OLDACRE III, both listed as minors in 1964. I reasoned that there probably were not too many William Henry OLDACREs in the US, and sure enough, there was only one (he had been adopted, hence the different last name). When I contacted him, it was indeed he, and he put me in touch with John H. WILSON, who was still living at age 85. When I spoke with him, he told me of relatives that I didn't know I had, that lived in Northern California, less than an hour from my house in Oakland. There were 4 kids, all living in San Rafael, CA with the surname TILLSON, all descended this way: Oscar Hayden WARD m. Juliette Granville Wightman William H. WARD m. Mary B. Miller Marion WARD m. Paget Cady Mary Lee Cady m. Harold Gordon Tillson 4 kids - Marian, Jim, Steve and Tom I first met Marian, and she showed me a binder with a LOT of old photos and papers - things like a wedding anniversary invitation from my GGrandfather Oscar WARD. Fantastic - pictures that I had never seen before... Anyway, Jim was there too, and a one point said, "Wait - I have a couple of other things you might be interested in." He came back with a pair of portraits of...my Great Great Grandparents, William Warren WARD and Maria Jane PHILLIPS, (Oscar Hayden WARD's parents) painted in 1843, which he then *gave to me.* Unbelievable. So when you feel like you're getting nowhere, remember that one little piece of info like a probate record of a not too close relative can yield a treasure trove. All the best to you, world wide. 3. My name is Brenda Green and I am new to the Ward mailing list. I am in search of any info that would help me to locate info on the life of my WARD descendents. My grandmother was MAE VEMELTA WARD dob- 9-20-1902 death - 11-9-1949. She married HARRY VAN VORST on 8-18-1924 in Carbondale, PA. MAE was born in Honesdale, pa. Her parents were MAUDE ALBERTY of Honesdale, pa and EDWARD WARD of CHERRY RIDGE, PA. born in approx 1877. Maude was born near 1880. They also had 4 sons RUSSELL and KENNETH WARD of Honesdale as of 1949, NELSON WARD of Bloomfield, NJ as of 1949 and IRVIN WARD of Carley Brook, PA also as of 1949. ' My grandmother MAE died in 1949 and her mother Maude was still alive and living in Honesdale at the time. My father KENNETH VAN VORST remembers visiting his Uncles listed above at the "old farm house" where his grandparents (maude and edward) lived in the hills of Honesdale. I also have census info on several other WARD if anyone is intersted. Thanks in advance if anyone has any info they can forward that is helpful.. Brenda Green Oneida,NY bgreen02@twcny.rr.com

    3. I'm going to put this out there again; sorry everyone!! OK. Here we go. I am looking for any clues anyone can kindly provide to help me with my search for the parents and/or siblings of William H. WARD, my gggrandfather. According to all census records, William was born in KY abt 1815. According to his death certificate, he was born in OH Sept 1816. The son who signed the death cert didn't know the names of William's parents, so he was probably unclear on the place of birth, as well. William died in Franklin, Johnson County, IN 28 Jun 1903. He first appears in the Mercer Co, KY census 1840, then again in 1850, with wife, Jane, and children Merritt age 9, Elevin age 6, and Mary, age 5. In 1860 he is in Johnson County, IN in the household of Mary POWELL. He is with his wife, Nancy A., and children Elizabeth, age 6, and Jacob, age 1. In 1870 he is still in Johnson Co, IN, with wife, Nancy, sons Gates, James and Leaven. Also in his household at that time are Mary and Bell COMBS. William married Margaret GRITTON 30 Aug 1840 in Mercer Co, KY. Margaret was the daughter of William GRITTON and Jenney Jane LIPSEY. He next married Margaret's sister, Milliann Jane GRITTON 30 Aug 1848. He next married Nancy Ann LEWIS 06 Oct 1852. All marriages were in Mercer Co., KY. William's son, Elevin, was my ggrandfather. He was later known as Levon, with spellings any way you can imagine. He married Elizabeth Florence BROWN, daughter of Henry V. BROWN and Mary Ann TILSON, in Johnson Co, IN 04 Oct 1877. I have information on that descendancy that I would be happy to share. Anything on any of these people would be so great!! No piece of information is too small; maybe if I get something that I can add to what I have I'll finally be able to piece this together. Everything but the Tilson line is full of holes that I can't seem to be able to fill. Thank you, Anne :)
