    3. I have looked in Fackler Township for 1900 I found a Mindera Talley, brother in law to Ariah Lawallen (Mindera's wife was Betty). On p 78b, I found a Henson Talley, with wife Lucy, but it states she was born in 1847. On the same page there was a Pleas Talley and wife Mariah. None of these folks had the children you mentioned. There was no Jesse Talley listed in the 1920 index for Alabama. Good luck, Linnea Albuquerque, NM __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. If you know that your grandfather was born in 1890, and where he and his siblings were born, you can look in the 1900 census for that town and try to find the Talleys. If you can give me the county and town they lived in, I would be willing to look this family up, as long as it is a legible request. I MUST have the town however. As far as getting obituaries, most are microfilmed after so many years, and you can order the appropriate microfilm from Knoxville on interlibrary loan from your local public library. 3. You might want to try the 1880 census index that is now on CD. I think this is available at most LDS Family History Centers. This CD has a search function that allows you to look for individual members of a family by name and age. If George was not that much older or younger, you could find families that have a 8 year old Lucinda, and a George as well. The suggestion that you try to find an obit is also good. It might have the names of other siblings, or possibly have parents, as well as the date and place of her marriage. Do you know what year and where your grandparent who was her child was born? If it was before 1930, you should be able to find Lucinda and husband in an early 20th century census, as well. Good luck! 3. You may want to try the Random acts Of Genealogical Kindness (or something like that) It is on Rootsweb somewhere. Basically find what ever county and state that you are looking for, and see if someone has a contact name and email posted, Then email them and see if they will search for public records regarding your person of interest. Plus you can sign up for any counties and states local to you!!! 1. Re: OT: virus problem - is it you?
    2. Subj: Email Spoofing This is what I posted to two list that I am on -- maybe it will be of interest to all of you. Beulah <<<<<<<<As a rule I am not in favor of posting of the virus warnings. At present, there is a real threat of a virus that may not be on your computer but is sent by another computer with your name as sender. I received this from a friend. Seems it is very common now to receive several of these a day. I do not open any attachments now. I always email and ask if that person has sent me an attachment. I am virus free, I checked everything and have the lastest definitons. So if you get one from me delete it. I don't know how this works but evidently it is coming from someone else email list and puts my name or your name on it when in fact we didn't send it. Beulah This is what I received.......... <<<<<<<<talked to the computer people at the University of MS, they tell me.... found out some data.... this is called Email Spoofing, i.e. a thing a clever virus does, it randomly selects an email address from the infected computer's email address, and inserts that into the From Field of an email message, so it appears that person sent the email. It covers its tracks that way. So the name on the address is not the person who sent to the infected email. Very clever. so anyway, these viruses do not come from the person in the From Field of the email message. Everyone should update (like now) their anti virus software and keep it very current to protect the list serve.>>>>>>>>>>> So please update and scan your computer every day. Help Keep the list virus free.

Ward asked a lot of questions about the DNA testing project that Colin Ward has been trying to set up. I don't have any costs for this. It isn't a commercial project like the ones that the people at Ancestry.com run; it's a research project at a UK university that has done some of the original investigations. I don't know how he talked them into it, but apparently he did. My guess is that the cost will depend on the number of people that sign up. If it's as expensive as the numbers you mention, I don't think it will go anywhere. We'll have to see what Colin can come up with. It's not clear to me if there will be anything specific on, say, William Ward of Sudbury; I'm related to him through a female line, so would expect the male line to indicate no connection. And everybody who's connected to William would sure like to know just where he came from (!). Carl, just a note, that I sometimes miss a digest or two and so ask you to cc me on things so I can catch them and be sure to reply. 3. Ambry, James Ward is my brick wall. I know my Wards came from Pa. to Ohio in the early 1800s. James was born about 1816 and married Mary Riggsby on 9 Jan 1834 in Union County, In. Just wondering if this might tie into your Wards. Some people I'm in contact with thought Benjamin might be his father but I haven't been able to prove that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. 1. Northampton County, PA
    2. Looking for WARD descendants and researchers whose WARD ancestors migrated to or from Northampton County, PA, in the mid to late 1700s or later. Charles M. Sandwick's 1985 book, "Jacobsburg, A Pennsylvania Community and Its People," profiles some 20 family genealogies from Northampton County, PA and neighboring counties. Chapter 25, is "Descendant of Benjamin and Barbara Ward. Northampton County, PA is along the Delaware River, and migrations between this county and Warren County NJ were common. The origins of Benjamin and Barbara Ward are unknown. (The Jacobsburg Historical Society's website is www.jacobsburg.com) According to Sandwick, Benjamin and Barbara can be traced back as far as 1775, at least. It is possible that they resided there earlier, since there is another WARD family who resided in the same township during the mid to late 1700s, I am in contact with the WARD descendant of that WARD family. Some of the ancestors of that WARD are included in the reference to John Humphreys' book, further down in this posting, From the book: "Benjamin Ward took the oath of allegiance in Northampton County on 18 May 1778, being number 84 on a return filed by Lewis Stacher, Esq. He was enrolled as a private in Captain Lewis Stacher's Company, 2nd Battalion, Northampton County Militia, on rolls dated at Plainfield 16 May 1780, 10 Apr 1781, 1 Sep 1781 and 18 Apr 1782, as recorded in Pennsylvania Archive, series 5, volume 8. Following a reorganization of the militia, a list of the seventh company (commanded by Capt. Lewis Stacher) in the Sixth Battalion was sworn before Thomas Craig on May 10th, 1784. In this roll, Benjamin Ward was again recorded as a private; so his service in the American Revolution spanned a period of at least four years." "The earliest date that we have found for the presence of Benjamin Ward and his wife, Barbara in Plainfield was 22 Oct 1775, when their son Adam was baptized at the Plainfield Reformed Church." There were spelling variations/errors of Ward. In the book, as seen in "Pennsylvania Births, Northampton County, 1733-1800," by John Humphrey. On page 226, there is listed Ward, Wart, and Warth. Some of the parents have the same first names and are actually the parents for the 2 WARD families. Determining whether the two WARD families are related is yet to be accomplished.
