Gigi, I have a few James Wards to add to your list. I hope this helps someone! Please let me know if you find a connection. James Ward b. abt. 1750, Cecil Co., MD. Parents were James Chatham Ward (abt 1720-1768) and Mary Jarvis. Grandparents were John Ward and Augustina Chatham (Chetten, Cheetam, Cheetham). James Ward b abt 1805 to James Ward of Virginia and Ann Ward Veazey (b abt 1782).; grandson of Edward Henry Veazey (b 1762) and Rebecca Ward (b abt 1760). I don't have further info on this James Ward but I do have info on the Veazey family and Ann Ward Veazey's Ward relatives. I don't think this James Ward is related to Ann's relatives. James Ward (b abt 1794 in Cecil Co., MD), son of William Ward (1760-1835) and Anne Veazey (1766-1826) James Harry Ward (b abt 1810, probably in Baltimore, MD); son of Dr. James Robert Ward of Baltimore County and Elizabeth (or Ellen) Bell McClenahan; James Harry Ward married Henrietta Pike Ward (yes, two different Ward families!) and had a dau. Mary. The Ward families in Somerset Co. are not my Ward family so I don't have any more information about them except maybe some dates/relatives. James Ward b. 3/25/1764 in Somerset Co., MD was son of Thomas Ward (1728-1796) and Hannah Sterling. Siblings were Easter (Esther), Southey, Aaron, Sarah, Jesse, Noah, Thomas, William, Amelia, Aaron Sterling, John, and Thomas. James Ward b. 1726 in Somerset Co., MD; parents were Joseph and Mary Ward; siblings were Cornelius, Mary, Joseph, Alice, Sarah, Stephen, Ellen Ward ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gigi Tanksley" <gigitanksley@msn.com> To: <WARD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 10, 2002 8:49 PM Subject: Of Interest to those Seeking James Ward > Hi All, > > These are some things I just picked up along the way from various people about diffeerent James Ward's. I also come from a line of red headed Wards, although it's a very short line and a very hard brick wall. My paternal grandfather, Bernard Frederick Ward, was born (Freehold, NJ) and raised in NJ. he was born between 1890-1900 and died in 1967. He married Anna Parks Orton (born in Cranbury, NJ)before 1920. My mother thinks that Anna died sometime between 1949-1958. Below is a list of all that I have. Most, if not all of them are deceased now and from what I understand they would have been buried in St. Rosa of Lima's cemetery in Freehold, NJ. Some of the birthdates listed below came from the SS Death Index and I know for a fact that they had my father's birth year wrong, so the other birth years might be wrong as well since some of the children appear to be about 6 months apart. 1. Bernard Frederick WARD Sr. (b.Abt 1890-Freehold,Monmouth,New Jersey,USA d.Jul 1967-Florence,North Carolina,USA) sp: Anna Parks ORTON (b.Abt 1895-Cranbury,Middlesex,New Jersey,USA d.Abt 1949-1959-Cranbury,Middlesex,New Jersey,USA) |-2. Edith WARD (b.11 Apr 1919-New Jersey,USA d.Oct 1995-Ewing,Mercer,New Jersey,USA) | sp: Robert SHANKLAND (b.5 Aug 1906-New Jersey,USA d.6 Aug 1989-Ewing,Mercer,New Jersey) |-2. Gilbert T. WARD (b.2 May 1920 d.15 Dec 1999-Cherry Hill,Camden,New Jersey,USA) | sp: Helen UNKNOWN (b.Abt 1920) |-2. Lawrence Edwin WARD Sr. (b.11 Jan 1921-New Jersey,USA d.9 Mar 1987-Naples,Collier,Florida,USA) | sp: Catherine C. CHURCH (b.16 Aug 1919-New Jersey,USA d.21 May 1980-Naples,Collier,Florida,USA) |-2. Charles Frederick WARD (b.17 Mar 1921-Freehold,Monmouth,New Jersey,USA d.21 Feb 1979-Newark,Essex,New Jersey,USA) | sp: Rosemary FRIZZELL (b.5 Nov 1926-Manhattan,New York,New York,USA m.23 Jun 1943) |-2. Bernard WARD Jr. (b.Abt 1923) | sp: UNKNOWN |-2. Mary WARD (b.Abt 1925) +-2. Richard WARD (b.Abt 1938) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope that someone can help me find out more about my father's side of the family. Hi ya'll, Just a word about the genetics of red hair. The gene for whether or not you have red hair is located on chromosome 4. It is dominant, meaning if you have one copy of the gene that says "yes" to red, you have the potential for red hair. This gene is hypostatic (meaning overridden) by the gene for brown hair, which is located on chromosome 15. So it is possible to have brown hair and still carry the gene for red. The red hair gene is somewhat penetrant in brown hair, meaning it can have partial expression, yielding red highlights. I am not quite sure how one ends up with strawberry blonde hair (as opposed to red hair which should should in theory result if you had the recessive genes for brown, which yields blonde, and one gene for red). There are probably a few other modifying genes involved that modify the expression of red and brown. Don't know if this helps, but it might be interesting. No sorry Rick, My James Ward's children's names are William Alfred Ward(which is my ggg-grandfather) James Ward Jr, Enoch Ward, William Ward, Stephen Ward, Sarah Ward, Ambros Ward. I wished they matched but once again for me no luck.. I only wished someone out there would reconize these names and say that they have the rest of the family going back into the 1600's or something, but I guess they don't want to be found just like my Joneses and Smith's don't want to be found. Sorry, none sounds familiar to me. Did see mention of Lamb and my Grandfather from my Father's side of the family was Morris B. Lamb from Illinois. Gladys
I asked, and it doesn't seem there were any redheads in my Ward group either. Seems as if, they had dark hair. Here is the info on mine again, in case anyone might know anything!! William Ward, no dates on him, except he was married in 1835 to a Clarissa Pearson, in Fayette Co. Ga. Some think he might have come to Ga. from S.C., but have no proof! Their children were: James, b. 1836 in Ga. Thomas, b. 1838 in Ga. Wilson Lumpkin b. 1843 in Al. My GGrandfather. Wilson Lumpkin was married to Emily Caroline Hodges, daughter of a Johnson Hodges. They lived in Randolph Co. Al. William Ward, and Clarissa were listed in the 1850 census for Randolph Co., and also Clarissa's mother,it is believed, was listed. Her name was Uney or Yeona Pearson. If anyone recognizes any of these names, or think they might connect with them, please let me know! Becky Carden, rec@hiwaay.net
