Does anyone have any Wards that lived in the Northeastern to Eastern United States around the late 1800's to early 1900's. My grandfather, Bernard Frederick Ward, was born in Freehold, NJ in Nov 1, 1890, and my grandmother, Anna Parks Orton, was born sometime around then in Cranbury, NJ. He didn't even sign up for the civil registration like my mother's father did and he was only 9 yrs older so I'm sure that he should have signed up as well. But I have no other information before that, and I don't know where they came from or who their parents were. I've written to 5 family members (the only ones I have addresses for) and no one has written back with any information so I am completely stuck. All of them are buried at St. Rose of Lima's cemetery in Freehold, NJ, at least that's what I've been told. But a bunch of headstones with names really means nothing if you don't know who is who on the headstones. If anyone thinks they might know something about my grandparents' families I would really appreciate any kind of information that I can get. Sincerely, Celia Wood (nee: Ward) _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

Hi Mary, You must be so excited to find those papers. I know I am to hear the news. I had heard that Edward served in the Revolutionary War too. I'll list my ancesteors starting at Edward: Edward Ward & Mary Hinton Robert Ward & Sarah B. Moran Silas Ward & Matilda Knott Thomas Ward & Maria Anne Elizabeth Trundle David Silas Ward & Rosa Virginia Morningstar John Newton Ward & Annie Eleanor Nicholson John Newton was my grandfather. I can scan the will and e-mail it to you sometime this coming week. If that doesn't work I can copy it and mail it to you. Thanks for helping with the "Ward's Inheritance" search. I don't know how true it is, but I have been told by Craig, the owner of the Willow Bend Book Store in Westminster, Md. that the track of land origonated in Anne Arundle Co., Md. I just haven't been able to locate it yet. Julie in Md. --- "Mary E. Hello Wallace, I don't have much info on Edward Ward. I do know he had grandchildren when he past away. I don't know how old that would have made him though. I think he may have been pretty old because his son Robert had past away before him in 1811. And there there is no wife listed in Edward's will. I don't believe Edward was a Sr. because there isn't an Edward Jr. listed in his will. My Edward Ward died in 1820. You say you think he was born around 1776. I do not think that my Edward was born then. That would have only made him 44 years old when he died. I have noted that his wife, Mary Hinton, was born in 1745. You mentioned a William Ward, my Edward Ward did not list a William in his will. In your last paragraph you mentioned a John Ward in 1790 in Frederick Co., Md. This could possibly be Edward Ward's son John Ward. I don't really know. I don't have any information on him Julie in Md. --- wward <wward@crosslink.net> wrote: > Hello Julie, > RE: > >I have the Edward Ward that you are looking for in > my > >data base. I have a paper clipping about Theophilus Ward's family who settled in Cumberland County, Illiniois. Could this be of your line? I am trying to find out >where he got the tract of land "Ward's Inheritance" I have looked at Edward Ward for some time and I believe he may have had a brother named George. If this is true, the brothers were responsible for forming a church on the Monocacy River ( see "Pioneers of the Old Monocacy" by Grace L. Tracey and John P. Dern. The reason I have looked at thisWard Sr., born in Frederick County, MD about 1776. William's first born child was also Sarah Ann "Sally" Ward. William moved west to what is now Frostburg in 1806. Sally Ward married the son of Maj. John Taylor of "Congresss' Own" fame during the Rev. War. Mr. Taylor was a relative of President Zachary Taylor. If this family is related to John or Francis Ward of Frederick County (1790 census of Frederick County), our families are related. Wallace M. Ward Manassas, VA wward@crosslink.net
Hi Julie: I was looking through some old paperwork of my husband's Mother and came across this list of people who she traces her family back to and the first one on the list was Edward Ward (and she says he is her Revolutionary Ancestor). This is so exciting because this a new line for me, although I have been doing other family lines for some years. How do you trace back to Edward, your 5th great grandfather? I would love to see a copy of the will. I will try to dig around and see what I can come up with in the land question.
