    1. Re: WARD-D Digest V02 #129
    2. My earliest known Ward came from Tn. In 1850 Arkansas he married Mahaney. James(Jim) W. Ward was born about 1833 as the Arkansas census has him listed as 47 years old in 1880. (If anyone cares to check the name of Jim on the 1880 census for a name call, I believe it says Jim W. Ward) The record shows that he married a Mehany, no last name or county in 1850. Source: LDS IGI James J. Ward married Mary F. Johnson in 1881 Paris, Logan County, Arkansas. Mary was the daughter of James Johnson. He was 51 in 1880 and was from Alabama, so he was born about 1829. I have been trying to find him with his first wife as the wife was only 30 years old in 1880 and Mary F. was 16 and her older brother James was 20. . If anyone with a Ward Johnson connection or anyone else has a way of looking up Emma and James Johnson of Blount County, Alabama 1870. I would greatly appreciate it . I am not sure Emma McGhee is the right woman, but I have been curious about her for a long time. Thank you very much. Pat He was in Petit Jean Township, Logan County, Arkansas. In my other line I have a Holman Ward that married Ann Reed in 1873 Tate/DeSoto County MS.

    2. My earliest Ward is Morris/Maurice. Born somewhere in Massachusetts about 1810 he was in White County, Illinois by 1838. Married Jane Saunders/Sanders there in that year. Died in 1876 also in White County. He's been a real brick wall. -Mike Moody

    3. I have two households of Wards in the same neighborhood of the 1881 Prince Edward Island census, who were born in Nova Scotia, but I don't know where. One family is headed by John Henry Ward, born circa 1816, and the other household is headed by Solomon Ward (I assume he's John Henry's son), born circa 1846. Solomon's wife Lucretia and two daughters from the PEI Census are found later in the 1900 Census for Haverhill, Essex, Mass, without Solomon, but with a third daughter (who is my great-grandmother) born in Massachusetts. The date of emigration/immigration is reported as 1882. Any connection to your line? 3. OK, my turn now, I guess. George S. Ward was born in VA abt 1778. He appears in KY, first Jessamine Co in 1800, Woodford Co in 1820, Mercer Co in 1830, Washington Co in 1840, and Mercer again in 1850. He married first Hester Veach 08Aug1814 in Mercer Co. and had a son, William H. Ward, b. 1816. He then married Mary Luyster 10Feb1819 Mercer Co and had another son, James R. Ward, b. abt 1820. George died in KY 1850-60. The 1850 census shows: George Ward, 72, carpenter, b. VA Mary Ward, 30, b. KY Hannah Ward, 24, b. KY Jeptha Ward, 12, b. KY George Ward, 6, b. KY James R. Ward married Mary James, widow of William James, 16Aug1842. The 1850 census shows" James R. Ward, 30, farmer, b. KY Polly Ward, 38, b. KY William ? Ward, 7, b. KY John W. Ward, 5, b. KY Amanda L? Ward, 1, b. KY Priscilla James, 15, b. KY Martha H? James, 13, b. KY William H. Ward is my gr-gr-grandfather. He was born and raised in Mercer Co, KY, and married 3 times. 1st time to Margaret Gritton 30Aug1840 Mercer Co. They had 3 children: Merritt Ward, b. abt 1841 KY Elevin (Levon) Ward b. 09Jul1844 KY Mary Ward b. abt 1845 KY William's 2nd marriage was to Milliann Jane Gritton, 30Aug1848. 3rd marriage was to Nancy Ann Lewis, 06Oct1852 Mercer Co. William, Nancy and family removed to Johnson County, IN sometime between 1850-1860. William and Nancy had 3 children: Elizabeth Ward, b. abt 1854 KY Jacob Ward, b. abt 1859 IN James Ward, b. 1861 IN William H. Ward died 28Jun1903 Franklin, Johnson Co, IN. My Ward is his son, Levon. I have a great deal of information on him-he fought in the Civil Ward, married twice, moved to WY, then NM, had a bunch of kids. If anyone needs any info, I'll happily share. If anyone has a VA Ward family with a George born abt 1778, please contact me at thepetunia@SBCglobal.net. I don't know if George was born Mercer Co, KY, which would have been VA in 1778, or moved to KY at later date, or was simply beamed down by aliens. I have adopted the latter theory. Thanks, Wards! Anne

    3. I'm afraid, I still don't know much about my earliest Ward. His name was William, and it is thought that he was born sometime between 1790, and 1800. I don't know where he was born or where he died. He married Clarissa Pearson in 1835 in Fayette Co. Ga. There was also a Simon Ward, that lived about four houses from him, and some think there is a connection between these two. It is also believed they may have come from York Co. S.C., but don't know for sure. William it is believed, was married more than once. He and Clarissa had the following children: James, b. 1836 in Ga. Thomas, b. 1838 in Ga. Wilson Lumpkin, b. 1842 in Al. He and Clarissa came to Randolph Co. Al., about 1840. I descend from the Wilson Lumpkin Ward, and he was married to an Emily Caroline Hodges in Randolph Co. Al. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Becky Carden, rec@hiwaay.net

    3. I will put in what little I know about my Wards. It starts with William Ward who first showed up in Orange Co NC and got a land grant on Sandy Creek which had first been obtained by Herman Husbands from Lord Granville. This area subsequently was put in Randolph County NC. As near as I can tell William lived there until his death in 1802. He and his son William Jr were in the Regulator movement organized by Herman Husbands and his son James probably was as well. William's other son was Thomas.James m. Margaret Patterson, dau of Nathaniel Patterson, and they had one son named John Orr Ward. James apparently died fairly early and William redeeded some land he had previously given James to John Orr. Margaret married again. I do not know what became of John Orr Ward. There are several William Wards in the area making it difficult to know which one was William, Jr. Thomas Ward Married Jean Patterson, sister to Margaret and they had sons Thomas, William, James, Hardy and Minus a! nd two daughters, Isobeol and Mary. Thomas died in 1792. Jean (Jane) married second James Pugh and had Jenny and James, Jr by him. William probably came from MD or PA down the Valley of VA and may have stopped in VA for a while as many did. He seems to have arrived in NC with the above children and no wife. He did marry a widow Barnett later but had no children by her. The families around William were the Husbands, Fruit, Campbell, Pugh, Patterson. William was thought to be very old when he died. There is no record of his being a Quaker or a Baptist so he was probably Anglican. Some think that Nathaniel Patterson's wife, Isobel was his sister but I have seen no proof. It does seem likely that William and Nathaniel came from the same place and probably Herman Husbands as well, and MD seems the molst likely. Has anyone seen this crew prior to NC? DEW
