Christine is correct. (As well is John - he sent the message before I could hit the Send Button). It is a system file and should be on all computers. There is an excellent site to go to confirm whether this is a virus hoax or not before you start e-mailing everyone. You will find it at: http://urbanlegends.about.com/cs/virushoaxesaz/index.htm This is the called JDBGMGR.exe virus hoax (or the Teddy Bear Hoax). Please confirm these things before you push the Send button. Hi Everyone, I am just forwarding this to everyone that is in my address book as instructed. Someone who had me in their address book got this virus and forwarded the following message to me. I did the check; and sure enough, I found that exe with the teddy bear. So I am forwarding the instructions on how to check to see if you have it in your hard drive, just as a precaution...Sue Sent: Monday, October 21, 2002 7:44 PM THIS IS FOR REAL: I have just learned that my computer was infected through a friend's infected e-mail address book. This virus automatically infects the recipients e-mail address book too. So I am letting everyone in my address book know. The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee Anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book, whether or not you sent e-mails to everyone. I followed her instructions and deleted it, but it has probably been passed on to everyone in my address book (which means you). I am therefore giving you the exact instructions and information she gave me, and I urge you to follow them and get rid of the virus. Seems it lies dormant for 14 days, so there is plenty of time. The message follows: Here is how to check for the virus and to get rid of it. It is very simple. YOU MUST DO THIS: 1. Go to Start, Find or Search option. 2. In the files/folders option, write the name jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure you search your C and D drive and any other drives you may have. 4. Click "find now". 5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT!!!!! 6. Go to Edit. Choose "Select All" to highlight the file without opening it. 7. Now go to File and select Delete. It will then go into the recycle bin. 8. Go to the recycle bin and delete it there as well. Select All, permanently delete, etc. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS. Sorry about this. I am pretty sure everyone in my address book will have it. To send this message to everyone in your address book: 1. Open a new e-mail message. 2. Click the photo of address book next to "TO" 3. Click every name and add it to "BCC" 4. Copy this message, paste to e-mail, enter subject and send. I GOT THIS IN MY E-MAIL TODAY AND I'VE ALREADY DELETED THE FILE FROM MY COMPUTER. The file jdbgmgr.exe is not a virus, it is part of Java. You've been taken in by a hoax. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Ward" <crackers@mcleodusa.net> To: <WARD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 23, 2002 2:06 PM > Hi Everyone, > I am just forwarding this to everyone that is in my address book as instructed. List, I would run my virus protection before deleting any files from my computer. Or go to a search engine and type in the name of the virus and see what they suggest to do. I believe the instructions to find and delete this file may be a hoax. This exe file is on every computer and has a purpose, so therefore it will show up if you use find on your computer to see if it's there. If you have already deleted the file, you can also find where to reinstall it on a search engine. These same find and delete instructions and the same exe file name was sent around last winter, and it was just a hoax. There is a legitimate virus out now called the bug bear virus, but get instructions at some virus control site about what to do before deleting exe files from your computer. You can find them on any search engine. christine On Wed, 23 Oct 2002 16:06:30 -0500 "Rick Ward" <crackers@mcleodusa.net> writes: > Hi Everyone, > I am just forwarding this to everyone that is in my address book as > instructed. HELP! PLEASE. I am trying to find the parents of my great-grandfather, THOMPSON WARD. The only clues I have are from the 1860 census that state he was born in NC and that his age was 44. That means he was born 1815 or 1816. Can someone please help? THANKS. James Ward
Hi Sherry, I too have a Ward ,William that was born about 1805,N Carolina trying to find his parents have been a brick wall for many years,I keep finding prospects to eventually rule them out, This is the first I have heard of the Wards you posted on Ward -L, I will also see what I can find and keep in contact if anything devopes that refers to James Ward Ray Ward woodman73446@yahoo.com --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? New DSL Internet Access from SBC & Yahoo!
Oh the puzzles of the Wards My forebear , William of Orange , later Randolph Co NC, appeared there about 1770. His son, Thomas, M. Jean Patterson. Their son , Thomas, M. Elizabeth Pugh. Thomas aand Elizabeth moved to Henderson Co TN before 1830 . The 1830 census lists Jourdan 110001-0121001. In 1850 census of Hendereson Co TN Jourdan was 79 and Hannah was 67.With them was Margaret 28, Elizabeth 25, Nancy 23, Harmon 21, Washington 19 Both Jourdan and Hannah born in NC. Do not know what happened to them although some say they went to Texas. I tried to connect them with my Thomas but they seem to have come from Bertie Co NC where they are the first names listed on the old Bertie Co NC marriage record. These children listed must be grandchildren. They are too young to belong to Hannah. The William Ward who m. ann Speller was son of John Ward of Chowan who made his will there I think in 1740. This William inherited land in Tyrell Co NC but apparently sold that and lived out his life in Bertie Co NC. In 1820 census of TN Jourdan Ward was listed in Wilson Co TN 1 male under 10 , one male 10to 16 one male 26 to 45 2 F under 10, one female 10 to 15, one female 26 to 45. These ages do not exactly add up but in early Tn Census records they were not too careful about that so it is probably him. I found a Jourdan Ward in Rowan Co once earlier which may have been the same one but I cannot find my record on that. I suppose he could have been a son of William of Bertie and Ann Speller but I have never seen tht connection and rather doubt. There was a Jesse Pugh Ward in Henderson Co TN in 1830 but I think cannot prove) that he was the oldest child of my Thomas and Elizabeth. The Wards of Chowan and Bertie prob came from VA. My Wards prob came from MD to NC. Still working on that Happy hunting. If you get Jourdan and Hannah proved please let me know. They have baffled me for a long time. I have ran across this particular Ward Family and was wondering if anyone else fits into it. Unknown Ward born 1804 in Pitt Co. So I am having to go through other sources to find out about this family. Now I am trying to see if my family fits in here, I have a James Ward born in 1804 in NC. He could be the unknown Ward born in 1804 in NC. James Ward lived in Pasquotank Co. NC, according to the 1840/50 census, which is not far from Pitt Co. NC. I feel this is the connection I have been searching, but I need to make sure. Does anyone have any connections to the Ward Family above. Please let me know. Thanks, Sherry Jones
Hello from Queensland, Australia. Is there anyone with access to the 1901 census who could seek out ALBIN and LOUISA WARD. In the 1881 census they lived at Park Lane Court in Aston, Birmingham with their children ALBERT EDWARD WARD, WILLIAM HENRY WARD and LOUISA WARD. I have really hit a brick wall with this famil and would be very grateful for any help. Many Thanks. Neville & Carolyn Hewitt E-mail thehewitts@cqnet.com.au
There is a U.S. bone marrow web site advertised on TV. I believe it is "marrow.org." You could probably find it by doing a search. That would be a good way to get the word out or to get help through that organization. I tried to e-mail a Beth Taylor. The e-mail was undeliverable. I was interested in her proof of dates on Luke Ward, and Luke War, Jr., of Duplin Co., NC and on to Arkansas. Mary Sue
From the book "History of the State of Kansas" by William G. Cutler Osage County part 10 "HIRAM WARD, farmer, Section 20, P. O. Burlingame, was born in Grayson County, Va., January 27, 1837. Son of Stephen and Mahala (Wilkinson) Ward, who descended from Cheslley T. Ward and Thomas Wilkinson. He was brought up in his native county on a farm and was educated in the pay schools of his time. He moved to Benton County, Ark., and during the late war he was conscripted into the Confederate army but soon made his escape and came to Kansas in 1862, and became Second Lieutenant of Company C, Second Volunteer, Kansas State Militia, and participated in the engagements with Sterling Price, at Westport. He was taken prisoner and compelled to march to Newtonia without shoes or clothing, and was there paroled. He first settled in Shawnee County, but in 1866 came to Osage County and bought a farm in Dragoon Township, where he has since resided. He makes thoroughbred stock a specialty. He has served ten years as Justice of the Peace, and for the past three years has been President of the Burlingame Union Agricultural Society. He has succeeded in prohibiting gambling and horse racing on the fair grounds. Of course, he is not liked by the sporting fraternity but he is highly respected by all good citizens, the farmers especially. He was married in Grayson County, Va., May 24, 1856, to Miss Lydia A., daughter of Henry and Rebecca Isam Wilson. They have no children of their own, but have adopted a bright little girl (Lulu M.), born Feb. 2, 1874. Mr. Ward and wife are members of the Methodist Church in Burlingame. Hiram Ward died Nov. 10, 1895 in Osage Co. KS. Buried Burlingame Cemetery in Osage Co. KS. Where and when did Lydia Ward die and what happen to Lulu Ward. Thanks for any help, Dinah
Guess lots of John Wards as our family had a John whose Father was Henry. Thanks, Gladys O'Brien Clark
As far I can find at this time----John Ward was from Ohio, his folks migrated from Virginia. That if I theorizing correctly would be aboutthe early 1800's. John would be my gggrandfather. Thomas, his son, would be my ggrandfather born in Indiana.I do not know any brothers names, but his sister was Lidia and a Nellie. Am trying to find John's wife's name. She was born in INdiana. That would help alot. I don't believe I've been any help. Do you know of a Simon Ward who was in Richmond Co., GA in 1830's maybe before that. I am trying to connect him to a family. There was a John Ward in Richmond Co that moved to Columbia Co., GA. I believe he had a son John P. that also was in Columbia Co. Are these Wards or Simon in your family? Simon was b in SC according to the census records . Beulah Brm1945@aol.com or: GrannyMc@aol.com
