    2. The 1860 census for Tuscaloosa Co., AL, in the area of Fosters, contains the following: 678 712 SHELBY, Jon age 63, farmer Martha age 57 Abram age 18 Margeret age 10 WARD, George age 9 671 705 SHELBY, Edward B. age 23 Luisa age 26 WARD, Lucy A age 16 WARD, John age 14 The 1880 census for Tuscaloosa Co., AL, Smiths (same general area as Fosters) Twp. shows Martha SHELBY age 77, widow, living with Hugh T. "Dan" WARD age 27 and his family, and her relationship is shown as Grandmother. My guess is that these WARD children were orphaned and being reared by their SHELBY grandparents and aunts and uncles. I plan to go to the library when I have a chance and look at the 1870 census. Meanwhile, if anyone has any information on these WARD and SHELBY families, I would really appreciate hearing from you. 3. Pat, My Wards came from N.C. emigrated through TN and Ky to Illinois where he settled before 1840. William and Lucinda (Anderson) Ward, children;Elbert Mary, Eliza, William T, Jasper (Newt) and Francis(M). Most stayed in Ill ,but Elbert went to Texas and William T must have came to Oklahoma, because we are here too. I may have found William T listed as an' Intruder' in The Chickasaw Nations in 1895, but can not prove that it was actually him.
