    2. Hi Susan, Thanks for taking a look at my info. The Thomas Ward ,my ggrandfather ,was born in 1836,in Tippecanoe Indiana. The only other sibling name that might be correct is a sister named Lydia or Lidia with a picture from California. Those are the only names I know. Originally,Thomas came by wagontrain from California to Washnington, 1870's to 1890's. Thomas had other brothers whom he tried to meet up with, with a herd of horses in Oregon or somewhere in Washington? and the brothers never showed up (maybe around the late 1880's.) At the very beginning, Thomas's dad, John Ward and the family could have come from Indiana to Ohio. If I could find them, there,John and Thomas's names in a 1850 census then I could find more clues. Do you have any idea about what time frame your Charles came to Washington? Does any of this sound familiar? Judy

    3. Are you sure that Thomas was born in Indiana and not Tipperary,Ireland? My grandfather's name was John Thomas Ward, born in San Francisco and I'm sure that there were brothers of his father's generation from Ireland with the same names. My grandfather's uncle,John Kemp-brother in law to John's father,Robert, went to Washington and maybe a Ward or 2 went with him. Probably not right, but what the heck. 2. Inga - I feel like we have some connection here, if we can figure it out!! How many Leavan (Levin) Wards could there have been in Stokes Co NC at that time!! Much of our information has come from my husband's first cousin, Helen Brust. Helen sent us a copy of a handwritten letter which was mailed to her sister years ago by an aunt. We are not sure at this point who the author was, but we can tell which generation by her references to gr grandparents, etc. (I hope with more study and time, we can pinpoint the author - it was a cousin.) Leavan would be my husbands 4 gr gfather. He would be the 3 gr gfather of the writer of the letter, Jessie A. Kester, Hardinsburg, IN. We live in Plainfield, IN so at some time we will get to the area and do more research. There were 9 people in the household in 1790, but we only have one child's name, William This letter is 4-pages typewritten (I typed it because it is so difficult to read), and I will be glad to send it to you email. Or if you would prefer, I will send it snail mail. My husband's line, as we now believe it to be is: Leavan Ward/? William Ward/Jane Jean McKillip Andrew Ward/Lydia Atchison/Mary Jane Veale Francis Asbury Ward/Mary Arthur George Edmund Ward/Edith May Young William Eugene Ward/Mary Judith Barber Robert Max Ward/Barbara Lee Head We have an approx death date for Leavan of 1790 (familysearch.org/), and have him residing in Stokes Co NC. His son, William and wife Jane Jean McKillip, named one of their children Leavan McKillip, and he was born in 1810, the same year as my husband's gr gr gfather, Andrew. There is an interesting description concerning the trip Andrew and his family made from NC to southern IN. in 1818-1819. Let me know if you want to have this letter, and I will mail it either way. Hope it will help you. I am interested in the name of Leavan's wife, we did not have that. If this is our Leavan, that is a real find for us. Thanks! Barbara Head Ward

    2. So nice of you to make this effort. The name for that time period would be John Ward. He would have registered in the 1840 census in Randolph township with his family. The 1 male child listed under 5 yrs would be my ggrandpa,Thomas Ward. I do have a copy of that census. If I could find them in a1850 census where they had names that would be the gold mine . What makes it so difficult is not knowing the name of Thomas's mother, as she was listed as maiden name (unknown) on Thomas's death certificate.Thankyou so much for all your efforts. Sincerely Judy Ward Donley

    2. Barbara, Levin Ward and Priscilla Price were the Parents of Wiley J. Ward born 1799, Rowan Co. NC. Levin Ward Birth: abt 1750 Place: LONDON,England Death: abt 1825 Place: Stokes Co.,NC This is the one I chased thinking his son Wiley Jones Ward would be the father of my Robert Jones Ward. He wasn't and I find no siblings for Levin. I am going on Jones being an old family name. Inga

    2. Hi We live in Indiana, about an hour from Tippecanoe Co. I am researching there also, but not on the Ward line. Our Wards settled in southern Indiana about 1819. I have looked through what family group sheets I have, and have not found a Thomas in any of them. The next time I go to Tippecanoe CO (county seat is Lafayette), I will check family history folders in the library for WARD and see what I can find. I know there are no birth or death records that far back because I cannot get them for 1873. Sorry not to be of any help at this time. Barbara Head Ward (wife of Robert)

There are some tax lists that name the boys over 16 as they were taxed. Maybe you can find your Ward on one of them. Inga WardGet more from the Web. 2. Hello Inga - I don't think we ever answered this.....sorry. Seems we are glued to the TV these days, as our world has drastically changed, right? As to Leavan's spelling, I am not sure. I have seen an Eleven also....strange!! I only have the name of William as a son, but do have two other males who were under 16 in 1790 census. Then there were 4 females listed. Anything you have on Leavan, or however it is spelled would be greatly appreciated!!! We have quite a bit of information from William forward which we would be happy to share with anyone. This is my husband's line, of course, but I do most of the emailing, etc. Will be most happy to hear from you whenever you can. Barbara Head Ward
